One of my clients came to me the other day and asked me how to fix a Google Penalty. They had been ranking the top 10 in several key words and suddenly they fell 98 spots. Then of course they asked me to help them fix it. it is a relatively new site about a month old. Any suggestion?

I have looked in GWM tools and there is nothing listed.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Direct him/her to someone who knows what to do.
OP you can't even explain what factors the site may have that would have resulted in a penalty so I suggest you do as Aty says and be a good boy :D

These days penalties are usually a result of bad links. Check out a service like Linkdelete.com to help you find the bad links and remove them.

If your client doesn't have many overoptimized low quality links then I would suggest taking a look at onsite factors. It could also be a result of Panda.

if you dont see any message at GWT, check the date at which he lost his ranking and compare those dates with Google updates and you might find something.

Audit the site for on-page SEO issues, such as over-optimisation and duplicacy. Also, analyse the link profile of the site to ensure there are no bad links. Negative SEO attacks are fairly common these days, so factor that in while trying to root out the cause of the penalty.

This is a tough crowd. Thank you for all those who provided constructive comments.
