Hey,

I have an e-commerce site which has been running for about a year. Although I understand my SEO is not completely whitehat (is it ever?) all I ever did was a couple of high quality PBN posts, web2.0 with handwritten unique articles, social bookmarks etc. I didnt do any heavy spam.

My site has always been steadily increasing. For the last couple of month it has been sitting in the middle of page 1 for a couple of keywords.

Today I wake up and my website has dropped 100-200 places for most KWs.

In GWT there is nothing showing under "manual actions." If I had a penatly would they tell me?

Thanks

Well, the way you describe it sounds like the perfect website.

In order to give you any help, we'd need a link, otherwise it will not be possible to do much.

Factors like "how" and "when" you built the PBN as well as how have you been maintaining it, are crucial.

Anyways, if you want, pm me the link and I'll take a little look.

First, It can be natural google dance.

In normal case of penalty, you would find something at WMT.

Just wait for 2/3 days before you take any step.

If you did not get any email from Google (Penalty Letter),then its not major case. Its Just a Google Dance. Just Remove the Spammy Link & make some quality backling. Hope you will recover it again.

Algo penalties are not shown in GWT.

Correct. I've had few sites penalized by algos during the time and I remember once I've even contacted G (thinking they manually penalized me) and they replied quite fast and told there's no penalization and it's just their algo.

Before taking ANY kind of action, sit it out for at least a week and see if rankings come back or not. Way too early to draw any kind of conclusions on the day the drop happened. Beside that, bit of movement in several niches recently, so don't panic (yet).

Please check whether the links you built to your site cut down or alive. Also, do a complete checkup of your website backlinks. As zevoltai mentioned, you need to take a look at your keywords too.

I suggest performing a site audit first to determine if it is an on-page seo issue or not. If you find nothing wrong with your site, wait for a few days or weeks and watch the position of your site in the SERPs before doing anything else.

Did you checked your product, category, tags, etc title tags? Recently I updated a wordpress theme and for some reason the box Force rewrite titles from Yoast Wordpress SEO wasn't checked, so my website had a bunch of pages with the same title as the homepage and a few days later my site was slapped pretty hard. The organic traffic dropped at least 60%, but after I figured out what was causing the slap and fixed it, my website recovered completely in 3-4 days. I am not saying that's your problem too, but I would check common things first before worry about links ;)

What is the competition like in your niche? It could be competition hitting you with neg seo, hopefully not but there are a lot of useless people about nowadays.

What are Good quality backlinks exactly?

"high quality PBN posts, web2.0 with handwritten unique articles, social bookmarks etc"

Unfortunately all bad link building methods, with the exception of the PBN but even that I'd be skeptical of.

You got hit for over optimization. Spammy Web 2.0's and social bookmarking have scene their days and they are long over.T

Time to remove links.
