I want to take some time out to help answer some questions for people related to PBNs.

While I am no expert (who really is in this changing SEO world), I have read and implemented things.

If you have a question, may be I can answer it. If I am not aware of it, may be there is something new to learn for me.

:) I was just looking to build out a list of good registrars who offer free or cheap domain privacy as these costs are adding up. Will share that list once I have some decent names I have tested here.

I'm also interested to hear about the size of your private network.

Since you are willing to answer questions, whats your #1 piece of advice for noobies on here just starting out.

Why would I comment on the size of the PBN, not that I am going to let someone review it. Whether I say 25 or 500 - no way for you to verify. Just saying.

Not looking to pick up a fight. Are we so focused on self promotion that a genuine offer to help is being questioned here?

Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

#1 for noobs - Put your PBN site on a different IP (host to simplify things) than your money site :) - You did say noobies right?

Do you handle your PBN sites manually or with some software?

Ok, I have a question...

If I 301 a domain to a money site, are the backlinks for the 301'd domain supposed to show up as backlinks for the money site? I thought I read a post here where someone said that had happened, but I never saw it when I not only did the 301 at the register level, but also in the cPanel.

Yeah I have a question you might want to answer.

What are important metrics to you when looking for domain names?

I'd be curious regarding how you manage them all too. I know how I do, but I'm gauging's SEO's interest in a PBN management plugin.

I have a few questions in mind.

1. Do you really need to put on different sets on plugins for each PBN site on your network to cover your footprints?

2. Do you have any alternative to spyderspanker?

3. Is it really bad to keep posting self hosted images on WP on your posts? Do you have to upload the image somewhere else?

4. I would love to see your list of places to catch expired domains, and maybe steps on how to get them spam free etc?

Mostly manually. I am looking at Infinite WP as a possible solution.

In my view the only case you should 301 an expired domain is that it is highly relevant and was never 301'ed before - better if it was never let to expire - i.e.e you picked it up from an auction.

Never spammed and never redirected are at the top of the list. In both these cases the domain will loose it value.
Also domains that have been dropped sometime ago, have been used by others as PBN sites or clearly SEO sites are second preference

Before I look at any technical metrics, I look at

Relevance (If I am building a niche specific network)
Likability (How broad I can link to from this domain - If I am building a general network)

DA / PA of the domain and top 10 links to the site
Good balance of TF & CF
Domain name (does it sound like a legit site)
PR (and if it is justified by the links pointing to it when buying from auction - I dont want to pay for PR if I am going to lose it in the next update. BTW most PR networks sold on BHW lose PR on the next update)

1. Depends on how big your PBN is. Most PBN sites will never pass a manual review, either the same sites are linking to same set of money sites or the links clearly stand out as PBN links. So if one has a small PBN, there are bigger things to worry about. BTW it is really easy to diversify your plugins for wordpress.

2. Block bots from robots.txt file

3. What makes you say so. I don't know anything in this context. Can you

4. Long post and also nothing you cant find with a few simple google queries.

If you are really concerned about spam even after basic sanity checks, buy the domain, build a site on it and see if it indexes. You may have to use the video sitemap trick to get the site indexed. Link to site not owned by you and see how it moves. In most cases link from a penalized domain should not pass penalty to you or anyone. (If someone knows with confidence otherwise, please comment). Also a quick way to check for spammed domains that are free to register is the # of linking root domains - if it has a huge number of LRD, chances are it is been spammed / 301ed in the past or else it would have been picked up by so many others before you.

never redirected are at the top of the list
Why never redirected, I found some great domains that were redirected before. You know, redirect does not have to be a bad thing, so many huge companies have dozens of sites redirected to their main site and sometimes they decide not to pay for this domain anymore, domain is dropped and left there containing some really great links, with zero spam history.

If the redirection was done correctly all the link juice would have been transferred to the site it was redirected to. All the old links now pointing are not going to be credited to the new registrar of the site. I must add though, I have NOT tested this. It is something that makes sense to me logically. If someone is willing to test and refute, I am up for it.

Not refuting as they do indeed pass juice but not all the juice. In my experience, its around 80-85% for niche relevant and around 60% non-niche relevant...

I'm interested with that list of cheap domain registrars :) (so PBNC could support cheapest one's)

One of the most important thing you can do with your PBN site is to give it some love. Treat it like a real blog that is held by someone other than you - this will guide you in how to use the PBN site in most cases.

Do PBN need to be updated with content?
If you do not add new content on a regular basis how does this affect PBN sites? Will it lose it's juice?
