[Journey] Diving Into Content Writing

Journey threads are great! Everyone loves to see successes and failures being dished out. in this journey thread I plan to take content writing as far as I can. I want to see if it's possible to make serious money writing.

So here's the catch... I have no idea how to go about this! I would judge myself as a fair writer but this is NOT my area of expertise. I will have to forge ahead and find new ways to make this venture profitable. I will need as much help from you fine folk here at BHW. Any help at all would be great!

I want to prove that writing is a good jump point for newbs in IM. If I can make this work out I plan to write an ebook detailing how it was done. If I actually do write the ebook, it would be for entertainment more then a how-to.

Plan:

1. I don't have one.

2. I'm going to start a new email account for all gigs.

3. Make a list of forum's where they have a marker place for writing, obviously starting off here at BHW.

4. Start up a gig on fivvr and clones.

5. I hate website building so I don't know if I'll start my own blog but I'll look into it.


Any suggestion? Job offers? Just plan ol good lucks? Feel free to post em!

Joking aside, you open at least 4-5 different gigs on fiverr.

1. Article/Content writing
2. Press release
3. Translating content, if you know other languages.
4. offer fixing and optimizing already existing articles.
5....

Find fiverr exchange group and exchange reviews ( you buy his, he buy yours), it will help to get more orders.
...and finally establish your self here as a good writer and open a BST, but don't rush the process!

BST? I'm not sure what this is. I've set up fiverr gigs before. Never made anything off of them but. Then again it was only half hearted. Thanks for the fiverr advice!

BST is a sales thread here at BHW. You need a little push with your gigs that id why is good to do a fiverr exchange it will cost you $1 for exchange.

A solid plan is needed, do try to complete your trial and error asap.

Sure, article writing can be nurtured, take a look at Natasha Nixon and Epic Write old birds. For younger ones, PassionateWriting and FortuneWords are having a good startout. My belief is the more you write, the better you are - after all practice makes perfect ..

lastly, never have a rigid mindset. Build a team of epic writers and revenue will be epic!

I took the dive right in approach. I have a plan but it's going to be a fluid and ever changing one until I ubdertand.

Best of luck man! The first $ I ever earned online was through writing and I just got started less than a month ago. I went the Fiverr route but it was draining selling 4-500 words for $4. Be sure to check out oDesk and Elance. If your writing is good you can earn a lot more money through those sites. Constant Content is a good site as well since you can submit articles on any subject you want and set your own price. I've sold a few on CC for anywhere from $17-$25 for a 500 word article. I've also gotten into writing ebooks lately as it's much more passive and once you get a few sales all the effort has paid for itself. I am a full time content writer.

My advice is to write a lot. Join a content mill site and write as much as you can for a good 2-3 months. Commit to x articles per day. Don't worry about anything else for now.

Jokes apart, and in all seriousness,... why don't you spend some time learning around on the forum, and become more confident and then go anywhere on that journey you want to. This time it looks only like yours is going to be the shortest among all those journeys...

I've been a content writer for eight years, and its always been a nice side-income to whatever jobs I had at the time. At this point, I've got a couple long-term clients that I can write for and make $100+/day if I wanted -- but I'm lazy Those guys don't pay quite as much as my standard rate, but since the work is always there, I'm fine with it. However, it's nice to get a few side orders coming in at a higher rate as well. If you can get something like that going, it's really nice. I can put you in contact with one of them as I believe he needs more writers, and I haven't been able to do much for him lately. Drop me a PM if you're interested, and good luck on your journey.

I would like to preface that I'm not new to IM or this forum. I do work mostly with classifieds and social media. As far as this goes, I'm not begging or even having my hat in my hands for anyone's clients or jobs. But if someone stumbles on to this thread an knows someone looking, or they themselves need a writer, well why wouldn't I put myself out there?

Try peopleperhour, I used to write articles for a short while and great success with them. I created an hourlie and featured and started getting work straight away, the trick is to be cheap but not to cheap otherwise a lot of potential clients will just expect to get poor quality and wont bother with you.

UPDATE: Day 1

This has been a rather fun day of learning and making contacts. I applied to crowdsource as well as a couple other mills. I'll have to wait to hear back from them to see if I am excepted. I also made some progress with private contacts and job referrals.

I'm going to aggressively look for clients and write for content mills until I can build up enough clients. It certainly has been eye opening but I have rather enjoyed this process and can't wait to get to writing more.

If anyone has a list of good content mills to add to or leads I would be grateful. I know I can Google for a list but I am hoping for first hand experience.
