How do I start?

Hi.

I get that my question is very general and not descriptive. I just don't really know how to phrase it correctly.
I'm interested in Internet Marketing, SEO etc, but I simply don't know where and how to begin. I'm not interested in making quick cash that won't last for long - I'm actually interested in understanding how things work and how to apply it myself.

I understand there are many free explanations, guides and tutorials right here in BHW, but the overflow of data is overwhelming.
For example, I started off with reading about Google Sniper, which, 3 hours in, I understood was outdated according to what was written here. I then moved on to understand the very basics of it all - I read about SEO, how Google indexes websites, what's affiliate programs, what's ClickBank and so on, but every time I read one article here in BHW, it leads me to another and that one to another, and the flow of information with so many terms I don't know yet just get scrambeled in my head.

Is there anyone who can maybe tell me what I should start off reading about and how to move on from there? or maybe there's already an existing website or tutorial that provides the info in an organized step-by-step way?

Regarding my background - I've been working with websites for couple of years now. I know HTML, PHP and a little ASP. I know the basic concept behind Adwords and Adsence. I know how to work very well with WordPress etc (I understand it can also come in handy in IM...)

I did that, but it was just frustrating cause they're talking about things I know nothing about like Pinterest or Authority websites etc...

Read, read, read, practice, read, read So many blogs, so many sites about SEO, Internet Marketing. Read them, use your new knowledges, create your own website.

Rank > Bank means getting your site onto page 1 on google and earning off any ads you may be running. It sounds like you are very new to this, so for now I would spend your time learning the basics. Find a topic that you would like to have a site on and start creating. The rest will come in time.

Read a lot man! Just read and all will come together!

I spent three months of reading when BHW came to my knowledge and my mind was blown literally because of the loads of information and of the chance of how you perceive the world around you.

Also do not forget to take small steps that will help you with building practical experience (like start searching for keywords through Google keyword planner then start doing keyword competition analysis etc.) that builds on each other.

Also read case studies from authority sources, watch how-to videos, or read how-to tutorials, learn CSS, JavaScript.

Never stop being curious and in the end all the knowledge you've obtained will pay big time.

I never finished university but that didn't stop me from being responsible for the online marketing for a start-up I was involved in and it didn't stop me from working as an SEO expert in one of the biggest companies in my country, and didn't stop me from making money on a side from other projects of mine!

You have to know though that there could be difficulties down the road - like for example you could get hired by someone to do a certain job and you could be scammed in the end after you complete the job - but look it at the bright side and know that with every opportunity you've learnt something new! That will keep you going!
