Hello,


I have a few easy and basic questions. I was thinking starting a website that is about geek and nerdy stuff.


For a domain name. Do you think having geek or nerd in it. Is a good idea? Or have a geeky reference in it.


For blog software which one is better to use Wordpress or b2evolution. Is there another software that recommend or good. I am interested putting rotating adds on it and hoping to make small money from it.

No problems with nerd or geek in the domain, short and snappy are best as mentioned. As above wordpress is defo the best. There are several different plugins you can install which offer ad rotation

Yes, having nerd or geek in the name will help. Try for short and memorable. I recommend using DomainHole's expired search and name spinner for finding available domains with your keywords.

Go with Wordpress definitely. There's a wealth of plugins and it is easily customizable to do whatever you want to do with it.

Basically, your domain name can be anything, just keep it short and relevant to the website content. For blogging software, I don't know if am the only one in love with wordpress.

I would avoid geek, nerd, guru and other similar words in the domain name. A short brandable domain is fine. Also WP works great on a dedicated server.

If you are going to use Wordpress, please make sure you take into account how you will combat SPAM, as you will most definitely be getting it. There are some good means to combat it inside wordpress itself, so make sure you read up on it. The first time I ever put up a wordpress blog, admittedly I was a noob and the very next day, I had well over 8 thousand comments that needed to be moderated. When I signed into my dashboard to do so, much to my surprize they were all spam. Always read reviews of any plugin you wish to try and READ, read, READ up on how to combat the spam as it will be time well spent. My blog is now spam free thank gawd.

WordPress is best. And for domain name - if you have geek or nerd word in it, then of course it will help you but other related good domain name also works well.
