"Simple" Wordpress Theme?

I'm having a devil of a time trying to find a WP theme that will do what I want.

1. Home page = full sized image that takes up all real estate above the fold, and has an embedded clickable url which takes the visitor to a different site.

2. Facility for some kind of article or post below the fold.

It's such a simple requirement, but I am struggling - any suggestions?

I am not sure if you are looking for a free theme or a paid one, but take a look at the genesis framework, and go through some of their child themes, I think there would be a couple that meet your requirements.

Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly, but why can't you just make a static homepage with that big image and content below it? I mean this can be done with any theme...

You could try the Enfold theme by Kriesi. It lets you pretty much create every layout via drag&drop layout builder.

Really? I thought the option was to have a static page below the resident theme's header?

With just one home page with a pic and an article I don't think will get SEO benefit using Wordpress.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. There will be other pages, if I can't get the theme's resident menu to operate below the fold I'll "make" one from within the text below the image.

So you want the picture to be above the header too? Then no, that can't be done with just a static post... IMO it'd be easiest to just edit the homepage PHP file in your existing/default theme and put it there.

No it's not real estate. I don't actually know what I need, hence this thread.

I think I know almost exactly what you want.

I will begin designing one Wordpress theme according to your needs, and will show you the sample here as early as I can. It's 10 pm here on Sunday so I may have to carry over the work tomorrow, just in case I doze off!
