Does adding fresh content help anything in ranking? (I will not get any backlinks because of this content), just new content.

Yes and no. You need to add new content even if you are contributing to your back link profile. Don't expect rankings just because of adding content, but content is a must obviously.

It can help with your "Google Freshness Score", basically Google wants to put more recent content at the top for a lot of queries, so having up-to-date content can help improve the rankings of a particular page on your website.

Yes, usually Google preffer sites that updates over sites that does not.
You can use some php files to show different "updated" content each x period of time.

Depends, but based on the limited information you gave I can't tell you for sure.

Is your site penalized?
Is the content unique?
How long has the site been around? (domain age)

My default answer would be a YES, but again that depends on your current situation.

There's a reason why there is a meme: "Content Is King"

Yes, the amount of fresh content you need depends on the niche you are targeting but try to post regularly.

Adding content will keep your website "fresh" but for rankings you still need links. Whoever says that only content matters doesn`t know anything. If you`re using WP you can always keep the content fresh with a plugin which changes the post date (it will increase CTR from search results too cause people want to see fresh results) but adding new content is also necessary.

Cheers

Agree with all. Add fresh content! I believe it encourages indexing as well.

Interesting about changing the post date. I hide most of my post dates visually, but I figured G already knows the REAL date my content was published. I am sure they store a date/timestamp in their huge databases. I just don't want people to see "old" content - so no date better than an old one.

Yes but when you change it then on serps it will change also when google crawls.

This is interesting, can you tell me the name of that plugin and are you using it your self?
Are they any cons you know of as you always refresh your content?

I have bought a domain ago and it got allot of backlinks pointing to the root of the domain. What you can do is silo this than you can pass juice (fron root domain) to your innerpages which gives your pages more values thus making it rank better even without anny backlinks to your innerpages.

I have scraped content from expired domains did this to test it how it will react. Scraped two pages od content for supporting my main page (silo structure). Results for two days ranking 43 on google for hard term keyword with 6.600 searches per month.

I do not want to take immediatly a conclusion as it is to early to judge if the rankings will last long. However it seems that Google is failing again in regarding unique content etc. (The scraped content is still alive in wayback machine). Considering all those websites that are competing for this, makes me laugh a bit...

Fresh content bolsters your authority in Google and makes the crawlers visit your site more frequently. Whether it has a direct impact on rankings or not is a matter of opinion.

Adding new content regularly keep your visitor return and that help your SEO

Why not add keyword atragetted content when you are planning to add fresh content. You can write around long tails even if its low LMS.
