$100 an hour is pretty much 6 times for a regular worker makes. That's what she said, litteraly.

The point I think you're missing is that you, as the customer, as with any business, don't set the price. Sure, your budget may be $40 and someone may be willing to cut every corner for you to produce some laughable excuse for a functioning website.

But when the market says a simple website goes for $400-1000, you simply cannot say to an entire industry that your price is more reasonable than the price the professionals with years of experience - which trumps your two days' or less of experience, mind you - are telling you is the proper rate.

Beyond that, it's just rude on a personal level to say someone's work, when as mentioned should run you $400-1000, is only worth $40 to you. Not only does this allude to the idea that you're searching for someone desperate for cash to take advantage of for your own monetary gain, but that you wish to prohibit them from participating in the market at fair rates. Especially when you indicate you wish to turn a profit from their work that you also indicated is essentially worthless to you and can be learned in two days.

Any website that is going to turn a profit requires planning and consulting. A designer who is going to produce quality work with any hope of providing revenue is going to talk to you for an hour or two at least, then brainstorm and create mockups for several more hours. All of which you get to pay for, as someone is taking time to ensure you succeed.

So I'll chat with you for a bit for $200, but otherwise take two days to learn the craft if you are so confident.
