Which way would be better site structure to avoid duplicate content in my case?

Hello,
I have chosen a main niche KW, which i want to rank very much to earn cash and about 10 categories, which are sub-topics of that main KW. And will have about 100 articles, I don't know exactly how much, i think, that i will generate ideas during the writing process. (I will also pull LTK's after considering, that my web-page is interesting)

I want to create a site, that will be convenient for users and google too.

Firstly, I had problem defining a web-site structure in order to rank well my keyword.

I was thinking to just make a blog and all the new articles would be on the main page, which would be filtered in categories. But i decided, that that would be very bad for my main kw, I would also have article duplicates problem and preferred the following structure: On the main page there will be about 1000-1500 word article about my main keyword, In the header I will have small navigation: "About Us", "Privacy Policy", "Contact Us", On the right sidebar I would place main navigation (List of my categories, where articles will be posted). And I will also create a new "Blog" or "All posts" page, where all the articles will be posted and do noindex/follow to it.

But the duplicate content problem still exists, because the excrept of article is being duplicated in the category and article itself. I think, that there are only three ways to solve it:
1) Write excerpts of article different from the main article. (I don't like this idea, because I think, excerpts duplication would definitely be better for users and me. ) Just stupid google doesn't like it.
2) Noindex/Follow categories (I would do it, but i want to rank categories, because ranking of articles would be damn useless, as i write them even if there are zero searches according to KWP)
3) Noindex/Follow articles.

BTW, I had some bright idea to search google about seo related problems and analyze blogs, that are in the top results (Assuming, that If their site is in the top rankings, their web-page structures are very good.) Some of them did not have categories at all, some of them had, but with different excerpts for articles plus noindex. No one was ranking categories. I liked structure of seo night mares. q o m, because my idea about structure is very close to it, but it's categories are just a very big articles and i can't do so, as in future I will have to write much more words in categories, than this web-site has.
What would you suggest about web-site structure? Please, don't tell me to google for answer.

Btw, on google's blog i have read, that they call such kin of duplication non-malicious as it is generated by cms and they will never put penalty on such kind of duplication, but it definitely can harm ranking of a web-site, as strength of content ranking signals is splitted across multiple url's. So, it still definitely is better to solve that problem. Many thanks to phpbuilts, as in his guide I found out, that this is a problem. I have solved all the duplicate content except, that they are the same article's excerpt and full article. I now am considering, to manually noindex categories, which's keyword itself doesn't have search in google and therefore try to rank LTP's in that category, that will have searches and do the opposite in categories, keyword of which has good searches and cpc.

But anyway, anybody's opinion won't harm me.

If you're creating your site with a CMS, there's plenty of SEO plugins that will help you avoid duplicate content. If you're creating good quality articles and placing them into categories, you're not going to have any issues at all, this is how most websites work.

I wouldn't start noindex/follow your articles otherwise you're going to restrict traffic that could be flowing from the search engines.

Thanks for reply. And would you noindex categories? I have about 10 category and I am considgering to noindex 9 of them, as their keyword does not have any searches in KW tool and there is no use of leaving duplicate content and have not decided yet what to do with the last category. Maybe I won't touch it at all hoping, that it will rank too along with articles.

As you're using WordPress, definitely look at an SEO plugin, there's plenty of good ones out there.

As to the no-index of your category and archive pages, I would definitely recommend no-index on the archive pages because otherwise you run the risk of duplicate content.

For the category pages, if you are giving each post a unique description and thus making the category pages unique in their own right, I would probably take the no-index tag off if only to aid link juice flow between categories and individual posts. If on the other hand you are not writing a unique description for each post and instead showing the whole post or a modified version of the original, you run the risk of duplicating your content and this will greatly impact your ability to rank for the terms you are trying to target.

currently im using WordPress SEO by Yoast and I think, that it does it's job quite well, but this is the problem, which needs analyzing before giving directions to the plugin.

I have already deindexed all the sources of duplicate content, except the one we are discussing now.

Okey, I have decided not to leave a duplicate content in that category too. I will noindex it or modify my wordpress theme in order to write an unique description for each article.

Btw, is noindex tag connected with flowing of link juice? As I know, it has nothing to do with link juice. I am hoping, that link juice from categories will go to articles and if noindexing will harm it i don't know what to do. :|

How do you think, if I place <meta name="robots" content="index,nofollow"> tag in the main page, will it make my main page much stronger or ruin the whole link juice structure?

Using WordPress plugins to help delete duplicate content would be useful and quick....

If you want categories to be indexed, write a unique excerpt. Otherwise, noindex them. Those are your choices realistically.

I have already decided, that I will do follow/noindex categories and bet on articles.
I will have a static main page, where will be 1000-1500+ word article about my main KW and short descriptions of categories.
Categories are sub-topics of my main KW and, but have zero google search.I will start brainstorming about my categories and find LTP's with 500+ searches on google and write articles about them in addition to ones, That I will consider as necessary for readers. This way I will get visitors from google and my site will be very informative for users.

I would definitely recommend everyone to read phpbuilt's topic about making an authority site. Yet it is one of the best topics that I've found here.
