Google "waiting period" after May 14 payday update?

I'm seeing a similar thing as well, since the updates. Mowing thinking that there's a few sites I shouldn't have given up on so quickly.

I've noticed this exact same thing...has anybody considered purchasing aged expired domains to get around it? I'd be interested in seeing a case study whether this is a whole domain, or just a fresh page penalty. I'm thinking this update targets new pages, since some of my new content on my old sites is taking much longer to rank.

I've just put online a site with four money pages - it's a re-purposed domain that I got the day it expired, and it has massive authority and great backlinks.
The new pages were indexed super fast, and I'm adding PBN links over the next few weeks... will update here the results. Total of ~100 dedicated PBN sites for this project, and the niches are not particularly competitive - it's exactly the type of thing that would have ranked page 1 within a few weeks before the last update.

Seems like it is kinda different for old domains. Got a 4 years old PR1 domain with good metrics. Just added 5 articles and here are the traffic stats so far:

No link building done at all.

This was my experience too, in ranking that stupid keyword - it was on a high quality domain, that had been around for ages. Built zero links, and it just ranked itself.

So I wonder if building links to your site BEFORE you upload your site and have it indexed might be worth testing...

Just checking this project now - and the money pages are already ranking top 3 for the anchor text variations that don't have much search volume... There are about a dozen or so links up already.

I'm pretty confident to now say that the 'waiting period' either applies based on search volume, or competition for the keyword.

The amount of articles is irrelevant to ranking. For example check 'buy Viagra online' and you'll see a bunch of 1 page sites ranking with hacked links.

But - my sites have ~4-6 pages. I've tried just about every strategy with gsa / sape / network, even without gsa at all. The results are pretty much the same.

That's bullshit. Warm, smelly, steamy bullshit.

The amount of articles is >>>relevant<<< to ranking. It may not be a primary factor but it absolutely something that Google considers. And apparently, you don't know how to do basic research. Because I checked your example "buy Viagra online" and:

#1 is Canada Drugs which has 403,000 pages of content.
#2 is Corey Nahman which has 304 pages of content.

So many marketers think Google doesn't favor big sites and that's bullshit because most marketers are too lazy to produce content. Sure, you might be able to find thin sites ranking in competitive niches, but generally speaking, the high majority of the time that is not what I see. What I do see more often that not is huge sites in the top 3.

I have also split tested this enough times to see for myself. My biggest sites never have problems cracking the top 3. They rank like mini-tanks. It's always my thin sites that get stuck on the top of page 2 and caught in this "filter" which is really just Google saying "I ain't ranking your shitty 4 pages wp site".

If you don't believe me, go run a few dozen split tests.

For every niche you target to 1 thin site, then 1 site that is beefed up with hundreds of pages of spun content.

I GUARANTEE you will notice that the big sites consistently outperform the thin sites.

Currently i am on mobile. Will post some thing intresting on this when i will be back on pc.

I was waiting someone the start this topic to say same things. I had few new sites started after mid-may and rankings are very slow to go up. Mostly stuck somewhere 2nd page. Interesting thing is, the posts I created on aged domains to link to my new main site ranking higher for the keyword. Definitely some barrier for new sites.

Same thing here... Thinking about buying some aged domains..

Lets see in the long run. Does this new ranking methodology of google, will help us or frustrate us.?

An interesting point i think no1 else has mentioned. how is your onpage SEO all you guys? Cos mine sucked! and ppl have only just pointed it out to me. Although google has refreshed the cache and it hasn't made a difference unfortunately, interested to hear how others' onpage is who complain of this phenomenon because SUPPOSEDLY you should be able to rank on front page with onpage alone sometimes if it's good enough, though I don;t believe this unless you had some serious siloing maybe and a huge content rich site.

I ranked a silo site with hand written content for an advertising network on the first page (#3) with 0 backlinks. It took 3 months, but it just keep going up. Tried it with a different niche and it didn't go anywhere. The ad network site out ranked a few sites that had been around since the early 2000's.

I have seem the same thing happen in local searches, all my new C&B silo leadgen sites that i have build at the end of May are stuck at pages 2 to 5, even for local keywords without google places and/or business directories, we will have to wait and see how this is going to effect C&B

*waiting for the first C&B is dead thread*

This would make perfect sense. I've been trying to rank a new site I made for the past 2 months and it's for a SUPER easy keyword. How easy? The top ranking site has 10 backlinks. It's 7 months old and 4 of those backlinks are dead, social bookmarks with the keyword "hardcore xxx porn" (not kidding and it's not a porn niche lol) and the other 2 are Web 2.0 with 100 or less words of content. The other sites are either just like that or worse. As soon as I made the site I was rank 18 then start link building and hit about 14 before I drop like a rock and have Never recovered.

Idk if you guys are stuck and it never moves but with this one it moves slowly back up then goes back to the exact same position, but is always between page 2 and 5. I'm just amazed and confused. I have a good mount of decent links to the site Web 2.0, PBN posts and stuff like that, and it's like it refuses to do anything.

Have you tried C&B with old domain?

I am building a new silo site on a PR2 domain as we speak, my plan is to hit the silo's with only contextual links, i will use a manual spun article that is very readable, i will start with 100/150 contextual links per silo, per day and slowly turn up the amount and see if i can break to page one that way.
