VPS vs Dedicated Server

I pay $320 for my dedicated server - I used to pay $70-$80 for a VPS

the difference is night and day - but you need a certain sized business to justify the expense.

I'm not sure a $70 dedicated is going to be all that great -- but check out webhostingtalk dotcom
and see what the latest offers going are.
 
You can get a dedicated server for the same price but you got to compare specs, service, uptime, etc. It's entirely possible that on the low end of the dedicated market (which is the price range you're looking at) the VPS could be faster. It depends on the hosting company and if they oversell resources.

Also have to figure out if you even need more power, there's no real point in migrating your stuff for a slightly better deal if your current solution works fine.
 
You got SSD VPS, which is much faster than normal VPS. You will not get SSD dedicated server at that price.
 
The specs of vps you pointed at that page is quite good. For the same price you may get a low end dedi with sata drive but speed and performance is always good with ssd. But ssd costs more and so do 1gps port speed and unlimited unshared bandwidth. so my advise is just stick with that vps
 
Check Datashack for a dedicated server. You can get a good dedi(far far better than a VPS) for cheap price.
 
I will just stick it out with the VPS then if thats the best thing to do for now.
 
If it's hosting you're after I mostly go for managed VPS.
I do have one dedicated host, but they almost always come unmanaged, and I can't be bothered to spend so much time doing all the donkey work myself.
Also, for 1500 uniques a day, I'm not finding a great deal of speed difference. I don't host video, but some pretty big images, the VPS is within 10% of the speed of the dedi for 1/5th of the cost. Add to that the hours a month aI save not having to manage the whole thing down at command line level, and I made the decision to go managed VPS rather than unmanaged dedi.

I have seen one or two fully managed dedis with good speed, but they are the best part of a $600 a month (not the "partial manage" and not the crap ones)

I used to have a SSD VPS, it was good and I paid around $80 for it. I outgrew the VPS and my hosting company (WiredTree) forced me to upgrade to a Dedicated since I was using too many resources.

But wow, the speed difference is incredible - the WP admin loads so fast, everything loads super fast. So my advice, get a dedicated they are much better - a VPS is nothing more than a glorified reseller account and are not that much faster than shared and is some cases slower, this is because a shared server will have super high specs like 64GB ram 8 cores or whatever, and if everyone else on the server has smaller sites than you obviously get more power to play with - with a VPS you have what you are given.

Dedicated servers do come managed so not sure what provider Scritty is using, I use Wiredtree and pay $200 per month for a dedicated (and fully managed) SSD with high ram, 4 cores and 1gbps line. It also has WHM and cPanel.

DANNY1111 is right, the price difference between VPS and Dedicated Server is day & night. Finding the right balance between price and performance is always a challenge, but remember that you usually gets what they pay for.
