so I had a niche site that i was monetizing with commission junction and click bank about 8 or 9 months ago, unfortunately i kind of had to put it down for a while due to a personal emergency. I recently decided to pick it back up again, but unfortunately the domain(a .com) expired and is know being auctioned for like $600 on godaddy. I still have the full wordpress site on my hosting account(not with godaddy), but i do not own the domain anymore. Should I just register the the same domain but with another extention(.net for example)? it was a side project when i picked it up 8 or 9 months ago, and I hadn't really started to rank the keywords as i was focusing on the design of the site and on uploading original content. So if i picked up the same domain name with a different extension, would it have any effect on the difficulty of ranking the keywords?

How many links does the .com have? Where is the $600 value there?

I'd just put up the site on a new domain if the previous domain didn't have many links etc and I'd just rebuild them manually. Don't stress it too much, if your site was a success before, it will be a success now, regardless of the domain.

I'm just as baffled as you are as to the value of the original domain, as it does not have a significant # of links or anything like that. it is a godaddy auction and I'm really not sure there are even any bids on it, but for some reason the price is set ridiculously high. I'm not concerned about the site's previous success. The one thing is that I had designed a number of logos for the website (that included the the domain name without the .com part), so I was thinking if i just bought the domain with a .net extension i wouldn't have to worry about going through the hassle of changing the logos.

My main question is does it matter that it is a .net extention rather than a .com(when it comes to ranking the keywords), or should i go through the effort to change all the logo's and just register another .com domain?

thanks for the reply by the way

No real difference there, using the same base domain just saves you from the hassle of changing the name of your site, logos, etc.

Just make sure that the content is totally deindexed (by this time, it most likely is) before getting it indexed again to avoid it to be seen as duplicate.

Hi mate,
I am having a Premium account in GoDaddy, I want to know about the domain details clearly. So that I can approach my account manager and get the information regarding this issue. Hit me on Skype.
