Can they actually sue you?

I received a message from an owner of a video in which I dled from and reupload. The message said that she contacted her lawyer to sue me or something like that. So was wondering will I get in trouble for this? Thanks

Hmm if its on youtube and you dont have any of your information on youtube it wont matter if she tries to sue you, she won't find you

And for a video I don't think so, if you did not change anything I don't think she could...

Yesterday, did a search of the title of a movie of mine that I had uploaded on a few weeks before, and found that due to the fact it was a really unique video involvolving marijuana some marijuana vaporizer company had stolen it, watermarked it with their site, and uploaded it all over the web.

What are my options here?

Do noothing... you should of watermark it so this would not happened, because you could claim it but who will know to whom it belongs to?

You could have a lawyer submit a DMCA takedown notice to the sites hosting this video as well as a cease and desist order to the vaporizer company. Most likely they'll comply. If they don't, you could pursue them further, but the ends might not justify the means unless you can prove some sort of grievous damage to either your character or your brand.

Contact the company and ask why they did this, and also don't forget to mention that the video was copyrighted.

Depending on what they say, you can choose to sue them or just sell the video copyright to them.

Until YT fix their Policy no one can touch either sides(if we talk about YT, only). If its a video that represent or belong to a major Co.(as helloall said) they might open a case against you in the court. But honestly, I doubt since(no offense) "Who are you?" for them...just nobody! So, they won't spent a penny with such amateur move. Hm. Thanks for everyone who replied to me. Wasn't trying to threadjack, so my apologies to the OP. Their unauthorized use of my video doesn't really bother me in the least bit, but maybe I can score a free vaporizer off this shit.

I'd advise not going in with guns blazing then. I've got a strange feeling that a company selling vaporizers might be pretty motivated by flattery and a "So, I was high and surfing the internet and came across this video I made and ... can I get a hookup on some merch, dude?" story.

this dates a few years back....like 00-01 or sooo...but was bootlegging around 30 cds with 17+ songs each on them(on egay lol).....everything was good cause the songs didnt actually have copyrights, was moving around $1500 per week

...but one of the cd's eventually got copyrighted....about 3 weeks later got a letter from the RIAA, threatening to sue for $250,000 per song....

not only for that one cd...but for all 30 cds...(even though they where not officially copyrighted...) so 30x17 = w/e x $250,000.... well i quit that....

but still have the letter framed in my office =]

Good thinking. Before I had even read your last post, I had contacted them with a similar message. I'm guessing the reason they noticed it, and ultimately hijacked it is because it was such a fucked up stoner thing to do. (Hint: It involved clambaking and an ice cream bin. Enough said.)

haha yeah if you're using an anonymous level 1 proxy you likely won't be found.

But if the video is copyrighted they are most likely going to get it deleted.

Unless they have legal documents showing they own the copyrights to the video there is nothing to worry about they can't prove shit.
