Hi Guys,

Im in the process of setting up a website and am thinking of a domain name. I will be selling furniture online, my target audience is everyone in the UK. Ive heard EMD is no longer liked by google and that I should go for branded domain. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Who said it is no longer liked by google ???? Take it other way around EMD do not have much value for SEO these days.

EMD is ok when it has strong backlinks. But true is that everything depends from keword which you would like to get. In fact many people lost their ranks becouse EMD. But there are still EMDs which ranks well.

So from the two answers above it seems to me that it doesnt make a difference whether I go for EMD or branded domain right?

It still matters because it is much easier to get penalized by overoptimizing your EMD than a brandable domain.

Mindless Wizard... If EMD do not have much value then what do you think holds value for SEO in terms of choosing a domain name?

If i go for branded domain name option then do you think i should use a keyword in the domain for example JohnsOakFurniture.com or oakfurnitureonline. OR should i go for completely branded such as JohnWilliams.com or Peterpan.com?

If you're gonna use a branded domain you are still better off using one that would give people an idea at first glance what your site is about, so I would go JohnsOakFurniture.com personally.

Yes, including some keyword in the domain is good, not only for SEO, but for making people click on your search result.
