As a Canadian who travels a lot I will say, drive to the nearest US airport, it will save you a lot of money compared to taking a Canadian based airport even after conversion of the dollar. I spend a lot of time in San Francisco and LA and have enjoyed my times in both. New York is great too.

Hey. I'm from Canada too! About 5 years ago or so I went to Cuba all inclusive for ~$800. That's flights, 24 hour bar with free drinks and food, a good free restaurant and all right on the beach. Free entertainment at the resort every night as well. Of course I ended up spending more though since I ventured into the city and went on some excursions and stuff, but the if you want to spend less than $1k and are taking off from Canada, Cuba is very well priced.

Some suggestions :

Grenada sounds good to me as its similar to Maldives.
If you want to travel within the country then traveling with a bunch of friends to Vancouver British Columbia would be cool enough.
Hawaii is also a good option in place, off from all white people and into the different world.

Nah. I didn't get any vaccines when I went and I turned out just fine. However, a twin hep shot wouldn't be a bad idea when going to any islands. I've also been to the Caribbean with no vaccinations either, but it's really up to you if you feel the need to be extra safe. You just can't drink the tap water since your body will really not like it. You have to drink bottled stuff and make sure the ice comes from bottled water too which AFAIK the resorts already do that.

it depends on what you consider relaxing. for me, unplugging and wandering the wilderness of canada would be a great escape, just finding some remote lake and camping beside it for a week or so.

if you're looking for more partying go to panama city beach. the women there are very easy. if you want to just relax and have a more chilled vacation look at a place called seaside.

i think you could do those for ~5 days under $1k

I agree with you about everything but he is going to pay out the wazoo to stay in NYC.

To me, nothing beats Gulf of Mexico waters. Clearwater and Sarasota in Florida have gorgeous beaches. Clearwater also has a seedy section where you can probably find pot. lol

Philippines would be a great placed for a vacation. Try batanes, boracay , elnido palawan or the puerto prinsesa underground river.

I would suggest somewhere in Central America.

You have the choice of a few amazing countries down there and you can fit a lot in on a small budget.

A couple of examples:

If you like diving, off the East Coast of Honduras you could go to the Bay Islands (Utila and Roatan).

I've been there 2 or 3 times and the diving is spectacular. You could even do your Padi course for a couple of hundred dollars. Depending what month you went you could almost guarantee diving with Whale Shark.

Or you could try Guatemala. I know everyone talks about the temples in Mexico, but Tikal, in Guatemala is, in my opinion, a more amazing place. Temples rising straight out of the jungle canopy.

Any of the Central American countries has a lot to offer and you don't need a big budget to see a lot in a short time.

And that area is reasonable close to you, so I imagine flights will not be too exorbitant.

I've had great luck for finding deals over on Travelzoo, just have to decide what would be an ideal spot for you then track it for a few weeks. Watch out for where they leave from as I would guess you would have to include the cost of getting to that spot first (a lot of the deals are based off leaving from a specific city). If you are flexible on when you want to go, you'll likely come across a total steal quickly.

Easy access to pot in the states would put you in Washington and Colorado though if you head to California you won't have to search far either!

May I suggest Costa Rica?
It's really an awful place,the people are extremely nice.
Have a look,although I am not sure how much would it cost you,it wont be much.
It's cheap and beautiful.

+1 to Costa Rica from me too. It's a little more expensive than other countries in Central America but it is in my Top 5 of all the places I have been.

Heheheh, although that sounds pretty tempting I've narrowed it down to either Costa Rica or Grenada (simply because they're relatively cheap, but they still seem nice enough to have a good time).

I haven't really travelled much anywhere, so I can't make many good suggestions, but if you can afford a plane ticket to South Africa, we have beautiful beaches and relatively cheap accomodation ($30 to $70 per night).
