TUTORIAL: How to Track a Website's Footprints for FREE using sameid and Google

I'm bored so thought I'd share a fun little tip. There is a website, Same ID that I use to track website's footprints. If you haven't heard of it before, you can discover website footprints like their affiliate/clickbank ID, their Google Analytics ID etc. Now, normally, you have to pay to use it. And it is a good deal and pretty cheap. But if you're too cheap to do that, I'll show you how to do it for free.

Example: Black Hat World (click on the images to make them bigger)

So lets say I wanted to track the footprints left by Black Hat World. What I'd do is type the following into Google:

site:sameid.net blackhatworld.com

This is the result I got:



So this is pretty cool. The first result is for the page that tells you what the Google Analytics ID is for BHW, and other websites on the internet that share it. The second result shows you the Google adsense ID BHW uses, and other websites that share it. So if you want to be cheap, click on the little triangle button and select "cached":



Oh look what we have here, the cached version, all free:



Boom. Done. Now you can see sameid's results for free. And interestingly enough maybe, BHW's Google Analytics account is also shared by naquilaentertainment.com.

Now what you want to do with this is endless. I've already used this to back-track BHW massively. Like, just for fun, we can see the Google Adsense ID that Naquila Entertainment uses. So why not see what other websites are on the same account?

I also use a few others but using the sites listed you can get a lot of info about a site and it's owner.

Nice. Actually, looking at those, a bunch of them look free. So there you go, even better.

Though I'll probably stick to sameid, lol, because it works with Google, and I find using Google's search engine is more efficient. There is also different/more data in sameid compared to the one I picked at random from your list, spyonweb, so its probably good to check all of them for a domain to maximize info you get.

Generally I prefer SameID but depends what info you are trying to dig up. Anyway, I have run out of thanks but thanks for sharing.

Lol no. There are lots of uses for it. I don't even know where to start. Take this: ever wanted to spy on how a successful IMer builds their websites? Find them using this tool. Ever wanted to look up someones whois info, but they registered using a private whois provider? Then use this to find other websites they own, and find ones that they got lazy on. Like naquilaentertainment.com hasn't registered using a private whois provider, but BHW did.

That is just one of a million things you could do with this information.

It can be used as part of due diligence and competitor research.
Also if you know somebody is banking hard in one niche, finding out what other niches they may be investing in can be useful etc:greddy2:
