Hi,
I would like to purchase..
But i would like to ask some few questions..

Is there any 3 month subscription plan?
Can we pay via vi.sa method?

Having issues with my new dedi not being operational within the timeframe expected. I have been very clear with you via Skype on my requirements, but am disappointed that the server was delivered short of my requirements which makes it pretty useless to me. Haven't had a response from you via Skype today. I have updated the server build tracking ticket and also just sent an email to Michael.

I was really hoping you guys would have provided a better experience than I was getting through my current provider, but so far I can't say that I'm impressed. Hopefully this can be sorted in the next 4 hours, otherwise I will have to cancel the server and request a refund, as my old provider has run up a new server for me, given me 2 subnets, 1 month free and $50 off for as long as I keep the server. Unless something happens very soon from your side I will have to take them up on their offer as I need a server running now for my affected clients.

I didn't hear back from Peter, Michael, nor were the support staff able to resolve the routing issue. I had purchased a server and IPs to give 130 useable IPsa, but only 125 were ever routed to the server. I have now cancelled my service and opened billing tickets requesting full refunds. Please process ASAP.

Hey,

You ordered 128 IPs as per your invoices, of course 3 were lost in routing. This left you with 125 IP's. Your dedicated server was delivered in under 24 hours as per our guarantees.

Our network engineering team who works between the hours 9:00 CST and 6:00 CST was out of the office at 1:00 AM when you requested to have an additional 5 IP's routed.

We do not offer any kind of refunds on our Dedicated Servers, however, given that the extra 4 hours has supposedly forced you to use another provider. I will make an exception, I wish you all the best in your future ventures.

Tried to sign up using the coupon code BHWHOSTYEAR and it applied the discount but when I get to the paypal screen to pay... NO discount... back to $35 a year.

In my discussions with you I explained several times that I needed a server with 130 IP addresses. You explained that the dedi would come with 8 and offered me an additional /25 subnet which would have been fine except that the server came with no IP addresses, and only the /25 subnet was routed to it.

I appreciate the partial refund, but was expecting a full refund in line with your own Guarantees at http://www.hostwinds.com/our-service.php#sub-tabs-2-services

"If a client is not satisfied with their Hostwinds service and notify us within the first 60 days of opening their account, they will be given a full refund - Guaranteed."

I would also suggest you update your 100% satisfaction guarantee to me more like 90% satisfaction guarantee.

I expect the $25 to be refunded shortly in line with your own policy.

It's been almost a month since I switched over to HostWinds from Dreamhost. First, I dumped Dreamhost because their servers are slow, unreliable and it costs way more than comparable services. I chose HostWinds because of some of the praise they have received in this thread. I have to say, my experience hasn't been as good as others here. First the good: HostWinds server speeds are pretty fast, reliability is ok (99.71% after almost 30 days) and the price is very reasonable - thanks to the BHW discount.

The not so good? Even though HostWinds does free website transfers and claims "Moving does not have to be hard." Contrary to what they advertise, it took four days after I signed up and started my transfer (and many issues, runarounds and many hours spent online with their customer service later) to be complete. Part of the problem was that I was transferring over from Dreamhost who has some proprietary control panel instead of cPanel. Before I switched over, I asked the sales rep on LiveChat if that would be a problem. He assured me it wouldn't, but said it might take a little longer. I asked how long and he said "I think it can be done in 2-3 hours". Just to be safe, the next day I asked a different rep how long it would take to manually transfer my three, small WordPress sites over to HostWinds and he claimed it would take 6-12 hours. Either way, I thought, that's ok.

I signed up and started the process on (4/30), sending them all the required info and they immediately let me know "We will get started on this shortly." Sounded good.

I don't hear anything until the next morning (5/1) when I get a message asking for my phpmyadmin login, which I immediately send. On the night of 5/1, since I have heard nothing since the morning (and it's going on 24 hours since the process started), I go on LiveChat and ask a rep there if there's a problem. They tell me there was a slight issue downloading my files, but that everything is ok and my sites should be finished transferring shortly. He tells me that they will give me "two free days" for my trouble (which my account doesn't show - but whatever).

Mid-day the next day (5/2) I open up another LiveChat and inquire about my transfer again, since I hadn't heard anything from them. The rep says there was an issue, but they figured it out and everything should be done soon. I ask how long that meant - a couple hours or a couple days? I was assured that everything would be completed by the end of the day (5/2).

The next evening (5/3), not having heard anything since mid-day 5/2 about my website transfers being completed, I open up a LiveChat again and the rep tells me: "We have moved all files and linked the databases, we also have a few copies of the DB, I suggest you also get copies of all Databases. It seems it wants you to reinstal wordpress. I thought the ticket had been updated. I apologize. If you have to reinstall then after the reinstall we can just reupload the DB and restore all of your content. It should be set, all files have been moved." When I asked if my email accounts were transferred (HostWinds has a "No data loss guarantee" and claims "All of your Databases are transferred") the tech said "I am unaware if the emails were transferred, all I was doing was mainly the databases, which MAY or MAY not contain the email accounts" and that "if you use a 3rd party email client it may store the email. If so try and back it up before you switch." Nice.

I thought it was weird, having to "reinstall" WordPress on my sites, but I gave it a shot and migrated one of the smaller website domains to the new HostWinds server and sure enough it asks me to install WordPress and the site is completely fresh/blank. I tell the tech about the problem and he asks me to open the support ticket again and replies "Looking into this now."

I PM HostWinds CEO Peter Holden on Skype and explain the situation. I don't expect to hear from him, since it's Saturday night, and I don't. That's understandable I suppose. He can't live on Skype.

An hour and a half go by and I don't hear anything from anyone at HostWinds. I open another LiveChat and a different tech - Alex Mankin (the lone customer service tech who seriously did try to help me) - gets on (maybe the other tech I was dealing with went home?) and I explain my issue to him. We literally spend four hours trying different things to get the databases transferred and uploaded. Ultimately we are successful and even though my entire Saturday night was spent on LiveChat with HostWinds, it appeared my sites were transferred, live and propagated ok. Ticket closed.

The next morning (5/4) I get some tweets and emails from people telling me that links and pages on my main site don't work. I check my site and sure thing, the home page appears, but the links to pages all give 404 not found errors. I go to the HostWinds site and their LiveChat is down. I open up Skype and Peter has responded to my previous night's Skype PM's a few minutes earlier asking "do you have a ticket open?" I reopen the support ticket and let him know.

I wait another 45 minutes, with my site still down, and PM Peter again and ask if there's any progress and he finally says "fixed enjoy". When I let Peter know how excruciating the whole experience has been, instead of the very friendly and professional poster I've seen here on BHW, he simply said "yeh manual transfers are a bitch".

Oh, and as a bonus, I discovered that some of my emails are bouncing back due to the fact that the new IP address I've been given by HostWinds has been blacklisted as SPAM by Barracuda Reputation Block List (for SpamAssassin), Cloudmark CSI, ivmSIP, APEWS... I contacted Hostwinds Customer Service and the rep told me straight up "We do not guarantee clean IPs". He went on to suggest I upgrade to VPN so I can get a new IP, but did add "we still cannot guarantee clean IPs." Awesome. So a couple of the companies I do business with, can't receive my emails and I have to email them from my personal account now while I attempt to clean the reputation of this IP address I'm stuck with. Dreamhost might have sucked, but I never had anything like this happen.

If you're transferring sites using cPanel and don't care about clean IP addresses, I'd say HostWinds is ok. Otherwise, buyer beware.

I really appreciate the honest review

In regards to the IP situation

That is absolutely incorrect

I need for you to please send me a skype message or a PM with

1) The Rep you spoke with

2) Any ticket #'s

3) Your email address on file with us.

I will have a brand new IP address added to your busienss plan so you do not have any email issues at all.

That is completely unacceptable, and the rep in question will be taken care of, I assure you.

Sent a PM on 6/2 as requested. No response yet. Will try Skype.

I wanted to update my review for HostWinds.

Now, the fact that my website transfer was a major pain in the ass hasn't changed. It certainly wasn't "easy", but it was really the lack of communication that was the issue. Had I known it would have been problematic and time consuming, I would have been prepared.

In addition, getting a blacklisted IP was awful and being told I was stuck with it, made it that much worse.

BUT, HostWinds CEO Peter Holden has since called me personally and spent literally 47 minutes listening to my issues, apologizing for my troubles, explaining what went on with their end, compensating me for my time and even following up with me to make sure I was happy. He gave me multiple ways to reach him again, should I have any problems in the future. You can't ask for much more than that.

My websites are up and the speed and reliability are much MUCH better than I had with DreamHost. I received a new, clean IP address (which is their policy - the tech I spoke to was misinformed) with my new account, so that is also resolved.

Here is my UPDATED REVIEW:

THE GOOD:
Reliability - 99.85% uptime (past 30 days) per my Uptime Robot. There have been a few glitches, but only once did the server go down for longer than 10-15 minutes and it generally goes back up before I can even report it. Right before I transferred to HostWinds from DreamHost , the 30 day uptime for my server was down to a pathetic 99.31%. Our sites were constantly down and DreamHost was always claiming to have to reset apache to get the server working again - this was after tickets went unanswered and I had to go onto Twitter to get tech support.

Speed - GT Metrix Page Speed (90%), Pingdom (faster than 84% of sites), Websitetest.com (better than 83% of all websites tested). MUCH faster than DreamHost. I don't remember the DreamHost scores, but it literally seems twice as fast. I think they pack those DreamHost servers full. HostWinds servers feel pretty fast and it's a nice upgrade.

Customer Service - Always friendly, readily available (round the clock) and when problems arise, CEO Peter Holden stands by his service and seems to genuinely care about his clients. When I was given a new IP by HostWinds I updated my DNS with my domain host (1and1). I wanted to find out approximately how long it would take, so I emailed 1and1 (since there was no other way to contact them that I could find). Three days later 1and1 emails me back, apologizing that they didn't respond within 48 hours (as is their policy) and said if I was still having problems, to contact them again. Unbelievable. With DreamHost, the only way I was able to get a decent response time to service issues was to tweet them my problem. Otherwise the wait time could be hours or days via a support ticket. The absolute greatest thing about HostWinds is that their CSR techs are almost always available to help via chat - in fact once you log onto the HostWinds site, 8 out of 10 times, they contact YOU via chat to see if you need any help. Awesome. Even before Peter called me, I would have given HostWinds an 8/10 for customer service, since they were pleasant and readily available. But after having my issues personally resolved by the CEO, I'd give them a 9.5/10. (No one is perfect, but I appreciate them trying so hard.)

Price - With the BHW discount, you really can't beat this price for what you get. I was paying twice as much at DreamHost for a crummy shared server with spotty uptime and slow response time. HostWinds is a much better deal.

THE BAD:
The Transfer - Transferring over from a web host with a proprietary control panel (DreamHost does not use cPanel) was a huge pain in the ass.

Communication - There were a few communication problems and lack of follow through during the transfer process and regarding the replacement of blacklisted IP's (they DO guarantee clean IP's for new accounts). Some of the follow through issues stemmed from the fact that manual transfers must be done by a single tech and can take place over multiple shifts. The communication problem wasn't with all the reps I spoke to. My issue was really isolated to a single tech, who made a couple errors and may have been misinformed, but I was also helped by a very nice tech (Alex Mankin) who went out of his way to try to fix my problems - even before CEO Peter Holden got involved.

OVERALL: (tl;dr)
I would recommend HostWinds for quality, affordable web hosting with excellent customer service. If you're transferring over from a webhost with a proprietary control panel (other than cPanel) just be prepared for a potentially time consuming slog, but in the end I found it worth it and am happy I switched.

OK, Hostgator have pissed me off to the max and cost me at least $200 today because they are now totally sh#t and their f#cking support sucks balls.

I am thinking about bringing some sites over to you OP and would be grateful if you notified me of any lifetime coupons/offers you have at the moment.

Short term I will start off the Ultimate Business Plan but likely to upgrade to a Dedicated Server towards the end of the year.

On your homepage you show a starting price of $99p/m for dedicated but it doesn't show any specs and on the relevant page your pre-built servers start at $125. What are the specs for the $99 server?

Bookmarked !! Need server within few days then, I'll use this exclusive offer from this BST.

I don't want to leave a negative review or bash hostwinds but I have a problem with them for over 3 weeks.

I wanted to test the reliability of this hosting provider with a business account.

Alright. Everything went almost well. I got my site up, the speed was alright, everything seemed alright.

I started emailing some of my clients and also wanted to form some JV's and surprise...

All the freaking emails are going to the spam folder. I seriously spoke with customer support (the customer support service is good by the way), and I had some help with this issue.

I had to wait for days to get the ip trust or something like that to be able to send a mail to a custom domain mail. SERIOUSLY?

I mean, this is the first time in my life when I'm getting so annoyed about something. Not only that but today I sent a mail to my yahoo account and bam.. straight into the spam folder.

My clients are not seeing my emails because they are in the spam folder. I can't talk to them. I seriously consider moving to another host if this issue is not resolved.

OP, I'm waiting for a solution. I wasted 2 weeks for nothing, I also lost some potential customers and JV partners...

EDIT: I sent 3 test mails:

1 to hotmail -> gets into spam folder
1 to yahoo mail -> gets into spam folder
1 to gmail -> gets into inbox..

Is this lottery mail or what?

You have a dedicated IP address, the ISP's need time to determine if your mail is spam or not. If you are mailing people that you do not know, or have not signed up directly with you, then it would be no surprise at all if you are going to the spam folder. Our solutions will work fine but since you have a new dedicated IP, you do not have any reputation built up. We can only be held responsible for blocks recieved by the ISP. If you mail is being accepted however, it is being sent to the junk folder then . You need to look into your email content, and into if the people you are mailing actually want to receive your emails.

If you need guaranteed inboxing on day one, then we recommend you use a professional SMTP service such as sendgrid.

You can send up to 200 emails per day for free
