Hi all. We are looking to start a newblog network, some private, some public. I would like to use thenetwork as somewhat of a buildup of an seo firm, for my productbusiness (we build and market the product), some blog/adsensebusiness, and some affiliate marketing sites. Anyway, I have readsome information towards buying domains, hosting, etc. I believe Ihave a lot of that covered, but we are looking to start tearing intoit, and I have a few questions about footprints. One thing that I amnot completely sure about is gmail accounts, google webmasters,google analytics, and phone numbers. Say I go out and buy 20 droppeddomains with good backlink structure. I plan to register on avariety of domain providers and hosts, using a private whois. Forthe actual information I enter, should all of it be bogus? Like saya bogus name, and address. It makes me a little nervous to not ownthe actual domains in my name for legal reasons of owning toproperty, if it ever turns into something. Also, should you registerbogus/alias gmail accounts for each site? One thing I have got hungup on, is phone numbers. You need a legit phone number to receivethings like security verification. If I have my phone number on 20gmails that look linked, this seems really obvious to pick out of adatabase if we ever look questionable. Finally I have read that itis NOT ok to use things such as webmasters and g analytics. Is thistrue, even if you register with alias information/ per domain? Iwould really like to be able to submit sitemaps, watch for 404s, seetraffic analytics, etc.

In terms of using Google's services like Web Master Tools and Analytics, there has been recent discussion on this form about Googles' increasing use of Analytics data to influence SERPS.

For example, if you run a website without GA all Google will see is that someone clicked your link from a search result. If that person later comes back and does another search they might infer how long the person was on your site for, but they won't know what that person did on your site.

However, if your site is running Google Analytics then they can see exactly where this person went, what pages they browsed, how long they were on site, did they bounce? etc. Bounce rate is a good indicator of the "quality" of the page the visitor landed on so the data they collect through GA could negatively affect your SERPS.

That said, there are lots of free/simple analytics solution out there!

Thanks, I understand about what the analytics does, bounce rate, etc. I have ran sites for quite some time now. I am mostly concerned with the footprint, and the linked phone number of these alias accounts. I basically am making sure that they are as unrelated as possible, on paper/ in databases.

Good to hear that, I would err on the side of caution and use non-Google email services like Yahoo! / Hotmail etc. wherever possible - the less data available to Google to join the dots with the better. Gmail accounts linked by phone number verification, IP addresses you access them from, or the addresses they forward to - are all bad ideas.

Yes, I was thinking the same about using non google emails. As far as the ip I access from, would this be a problem for those type of accounts and also access to google analytics, adword, adsense? Do I need to go find 20 new coffee shops? I am not super worried as everything we have planned are legit sites, but am kind of curious on the tracking.

Coffee shops, private proxies, VPN's or tether your mobile phones data connection. Just think, the Google evil machine of numbers is running statistics and algorithms 24/7 to look for connections, abuse, suspicious activity etc. You really want to avoid giving them any help in finding you out!
