How to Actually Purchase an Expired Domain

Sorry if this has been asked before. I've found a ton of information on locating expired domains and researching them, but how do you actually purchase them? Say I find one on expired domains and I go to a domain registrar, it says it's taken. So, how do you actually purchase the expired domain?

Expired domains are risky business. First of all there are services which try to grab the domain for you as soon as it leaves the grace period. But these services have no guarantees and they're often a waste of the backorder fee.

Bottom line is : To buy an expired domain all you need is to wait for the grace period to end, then register it like you would any other domain.

How do you know when the grace period ends?

When looking on expireddomains for example...do you look under the "expired domains" tab or the "deleted domains" tab. Because it appears as though the deleted domains are available for purchase, whereas the expired ones are not.

When you search at expireddomains.net, for example, you enter a keyword and hit search, you will be shown a list of domains that fit your search, contain your keyword. Look at the far RHS column, it will have a word there describing the domain's status. If it says "Register" then most likely you can register that domain for no charge. If you click Register, the site will take you to GoDaddy for registration there if the domain is available. If it is, you can either register the domain there, or pick another register and register it some place else.

If you hit register and you cannot register the domain, it means someone has beaten you to it. Expireddomains.net information has not been updated.

If you see other words in the far RHS column, like SEDO or a number $3000, that means that the domain has expired, but someone else like Sedo or GoDaddy still has the domain, but is offering it for sale.

Thanks a lot for info. But most of the deleted doamins available for registration have very less PA and DA. What to do in such cases?
