Facebooks primary goals are social and data mining, not gaming. The oculus is most likely going to get warped to fit facebooks business model and not address the needs of VR as a gaming platform

It would be a very unwise decision to not progress as a gaming platform as well, the gaming industry is HUGE.

Facebook is just a cartel in the technology world. They claim to promote openness and connecting people, but unless you pay them you can't engage all your pages fans (which you've already invested lots of time and money acquiring) and your personal facebook posts barely even show up on most of your friends news feeds. It's a shame to see this mafia buying up companies that have so much potential, they got to make that $2B back somehow, and it's going to be much to oculus fan's chagrin.

I kinda doubt the definition of a cartel is "they use their property to make money from me - instead of giving money to me for free"

Well, since there is no IRS-FB division, they have to make that 2B by selling stuff. And if they manage to sell 2B worth of something based on OR, they obviously did a good move with their property.

Yes with Facebook it increases the funding, however this will shift Oculus into a different direction that they initially have. They have to change their goal, and objective, abandon previous project just to meet Facebook new "social" project. Hopefully this isn't the case.

I was so excited for what Oculus was bringing to the table here. I'm gonna pass though as well now. Facebook will just warp it into another data funnel. The original premise behind the Rift's marketing was a great approach, then they saw the $$$ and sold out their philosophy as far as I'm concerned.
