Some days ago we say that one of the "reputed" members, coughVEYRONcough was caught being a scammer with multiple accounts by our cool bro W130SN.
Generally, in the shit list threads there's some kind of trend that scammers keep doing and people keep falling for.
What I've seen (I'm just talking about what I see, though this might not be in all cases) is that people first send money to the "coder" or the other party without showing proof of getting the job done.
I open this thread as a "compilation" of "ways" to not get scammed. I think if everyone could share one grain of sand everyone could be more aware of how not getting scammed.
I am both a SEO and a coder/programmer and I've done several jobs regarding coding, though not all are form bhw, this is the general formula I follow so that no one gets scammed at the time of exchanging the software/code with the payment.
This formula and my coding skill are the reason I get these feedbacks
(Not to brag, but it's just to show what people think when implementing my "formula"
)
Roy's Way to NOT get scammed
As I generally do server-side scripts (like PHP), showing the code in a demo site is pretty good for both parties as the buyer won't be able to rip off the server side script. Also, if I was going to do client-side scripts/themes (like HTML/Java), I would prefer to make a short video instead of the demo site as the code would be easily be ripped which i would like to avoid.
So...
1) I get to know everything about what the client wants and needs
2) I get the job done
3) As soon as I get the job done I upload it to my demo site and show it to the client (This is if its code like php and so, if it was java/html I do a short video to protect my code). [This part is important as the client KNOWS that I got the job done and that I am not bullshitting him or trying to scam him in any way. I would like to comment that this part is where most people in the shitlist threads get wrong as usually the client believes the coder/programmer without any proof of getting things done. I am not saying people don't show demos, I am just saying that this is a very important thing to check for you not to be scammed.]
4) Fix the bugs or add the features the client wants/needs. Easy, no big explanation here.
5) As soon as everything is done as he wants or needs, the client sends the payment.
6) As soon as I get the payment I send the files and everything is done without any scam. [At this point there can't be any scam at all. I mean, you have done the job, so there's no need to scam the client. Also, as the client just saw the job getting done, it's easy for the client to send the payment without any problem]
In short words
As a client... Get to know a demo or at least a short video of the software/script/theme working. This is the #1 way to know if you will be scammed or not.
As the guy doing your job... Just get the job done dude. Seriously there's no need to scam anyone and at the same time you will gain lots of reputation here.
Conclusion
With this, there shouldn't be an excuse to get scammed.
I know there is still more details to not get scammed, but these are some basic ways to NOT get scammed.
I encourage you guys to post other ways to not get scammed.
Peace and Protect yourself!
