sorry mate...but dont do it.. it really pisses me off when i get them messages, if i was gonna leave ill leave really..

I refuse to buy from sites that use these, piss me off really [reading it back sounds stupid but it does]

the ones that got the fake person typing really get under my skin.

good luck if you use it.

unless you plan on making a REALLY special offer? you really should stay away from pop-outs.

think about it...you already failed to generate any interest! if they are making a move to leave? it had better be worth the trouble. like "I see you are leaving...would you consider trying the 'lite' version of my product?" yes/no? or something like that...

the thing is that if you go that route, you will be 'teaching' people to look at your offers and then back 'out' of your site to see if they can get a pop-up with a better offer!

your choice, but I would still stay with a only a pop-up that shows only only the first visit (which means you need a cookie based pop-up).

IMO go ahead and piss them off, they weren't go to buy anyway. But for those 1% (or whatever) popup your special offer. Or at least catch an email to auto reply with an offer.
I dont know where to get it, I dont have them but I want to test.

You can also try a squeeze page to collect info before letting them procede to your offer.
Its all dicey rather than just a sales page, but it's worth testing.

Even better yet, maybe just have a email submit on the side to your newsletter/specials.

I'm with Orbit, it also depends on what kind of site or product are you promoting, are you interested in word of mouth, affiliate branding? or is a disposable offer where you sell a commodity Item? You could test conversions by doing an AB test with any of those programs. I use Google website optimizer. Test it, and if it works for you stick to it.

The only think that should prevent you from testing something is blatant common sense. anything else is just your mind trying to be lazy.

It's important to have a GOOD effective pop up. You can't just pop something at random.

I agree with using a cookie based pop up that only pops the first time they visit your site.

Other than that, they've already told you "no" and have left the site, why not make a final attempt at something? You should be optimizing every click that comes through, whether it's selling them, getting an email address or sending them somewhere else that is making you money.

You see this with a lot of direct response products in the diet and weight loss, credit repair and anti-aging industry. You must have an effective pop up or pop under giving the consumer a deal they cant refuse to be effective. In my experience, you see most of the pop ups with their "live chat" giving the consumer bigger and better reasons to stay. Unless you are working with live chat, I don't think any pop up will work effectively. Then again I don't really know what you need it for.

I use an exit survey asking them why they are leaving. It works very well, it's boosted my conversion rate by about 15%

I would be careful if you plan on making them a special offer, I know of many people (myself included) who click the X deliberately to see if there are offers, if it doesn't work then try to hunt around the site for discount pages. If you have that script it may do you more harm than good in the money you might lose through people not buying at the full price

But how many of you are experienced enough to know about that?

I would say most people that would do that, might also have pop up blockers already installed.

A lot of it is also going to depend on how experienced people to your site are.

This is where testing and re-testing comes into play.

Yeah they piss me off as well :blackeye: But there is research that suggests these work for about 5-8%, thus is my book it is worth pissing off people who were never going to buy anyway to get a few extra sales.

Some of you probably know this but if you're promoting a product that uses one of these "save the sale" pop-ups and it actually saves the sale, the affiliate (you) doesn't get paid. I won't promote ANY products that use these.

A little off topic but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Well, I have
Code:
Robert Planks Sales Page Tactics Two

It has a lot of cool stuff in there including a pop-out.

I'd be willing to upload it if enough people wanted it

This is another great method to boost conversion, and I am glad it has worked for you. Having this "pop up" on the LP when leaving gives the consumer the chance to tell you why they are leaving. You may even want to incentivise the survey for more completions.

those popups are really annoying and pointless if you want my advice u wont get them

Your advice is worth jack shit.. unless you've tested pop ups.

Pop-ups work.. I've tested them and increased my sales by about 15%

NEZOO, no offense but I'm going to use u as an example...

Here it is... IGNORE COMMENTS LIKE THESE.

Use exit pop ups!

They work, but only if you offer something of value.

Consumer doesn't want to buy you're ebay product, offer them a google cash product instead!

Consumer doesn't want to take a Pay Per sale offer, give them a Pay per lead Free trial offer in the same market.

Consumer doesn't want to click through to a merchant page and buy a product... Give him a free report and capture email adresses.

Exit traffic isn't great but what's worse is doing nothing with it, but to negate the annoyance, always make sure you give something truly of value and youre set.
