Are nofollow links still worth something?

Looking at my main competitors site, most of his backlinks are nofollows in the comment sections of very relevant news articles. I thought nofollow doesn't serve any benefit to the linked site but maybe I'm just not getting it?

No follow is more common on non-spammy sites, so more NF than DF. But more important is quality, if they are trash they won't help as much.

They are definitely still worth it and always will be. The huge majority of sites these days have nofollow on all of their outbound links so to have a predominantly ******** link profile would send up red flags.

Best to have them for diversity, they won't help you rank, but not having them would not sound too positive either.

yes, they are important to have. nofollows give you relevancy + dillute your link profile. id aim for 60-40 ratio overall

They are still good. Any link that brings real visitors is great, whether it is follow or nofollow.

You fail to see the other hidden high PR links. Yes, you might see some of them, but You would not see most of them. Try to get links from the same websites that you see and wait for the results.

Good to know as I have been wondering if I had too many nofollow links. I have about a 30 ********:60 nofollow ratio at the moment. I'll be building a lot of ******** links this month.

Hi OP,

As others have mentioned, having a good mix of both no-follow and do-follow links can benefit you in numerous ways.

Furthermore as Google comes out with new filters and updates, it will be a good idea to have already established your do-follow/no-follow ratio so it does not raise any red flags!

If you watch good old Matt's Videos, you will see that he keeps mentioning that nofollow links don't pass page rank.

That's probably true but links are not just meant to pass page rank. They pass relevancy, there's the co-citation factor etc. That's why nofollow links are still important. They won't grow your authority but they will help with all the other things.

No-follow links are important just like do-follow as long as they are quality and not spammy.

They won't help your rank at all, but a website without nofollow links looks a lot more unnatural than one with a mix of both. Just don't spend too much time and effort on nofollow links.
