Buying expired domain question

Could someone help me with this issue, if i buy expired domain with backlinks, the only backlinks that matter are those who are pointed to the home page for example www. (sitename) .com , and the ones that are targeted to the domain pages www. (sitename/page) .com do not matter, right ? I found few websites in my country with 5-6 pr, and, pa/da 40-50, but some of them have spammy backlinks pointed to particular pages, all backlinks pointed to the home page are clear and good, tho. What would be answer to my question and recommendations ? Thanks !

404 is an error page. I think you mean use a 301 redirect...

So in a sense, YES OP, only home page link matter as long as you don't build the website back to the original state where the spamming website links to.

you can fix this on .htaccess i think
stop google bots fom crawling your inner pages
wait some time after editing .htaccess for google to catch up on your site and then do the 301

Thats what I meant. Can links to a 404 page still cause a penalty if it ever got penalized in the future? That is the question I had.

Instead of doing 404 to the links, just remove all those spammy links point towards the pages. If not possible then 404 the pages.
Can't say exactly for penalty. But, it may affect your ranking.

it would be great if the domain have high PR and clean good backlink at same time.404 only makes it file not found exception.And if you redirect it to home or any where the effect follows whether it good or bad.

It's not expired domain, my mistake , it's expiring domain. What about if i catch expiring domain (with root non spammed, but other pages spammed), and host that site with my wp template, could it get penalized because of those spam links to other pages, even tho those pages do not exists anymore ?

Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't the linkjuicekeeper plugin 301 everything to the homepage so you keep all of the juice?

I'd personally avoid such a domain because a) some of that high PR/DA might be coming from those spammy links and b) chances are it'll have a penalty.

I'd only get it if it's extremely cheap and then I'd put a basic site up and leave it for a while to see if it gets indexed before I add any links to it. If they are dirt cheap and do have some genuine good links then maybe they could form tier 2 sites even - this way you avoid the risk of passing any major issues on to your money sites directly.

I came across expired domain names with 35 to 40+ DA/PA, The always have spam links pointing to them, that is what is called fake DA/PA. Any expired domain names with spam links are garbage stay away.
