Can I get sued for spamming?

I am doing a spamming campaign on one popular web 2.0 site, so far I've been promoting several offers from my network on that site.
The thing is, I have no idea whether they are in legal position to sue me for spamming. I live in 3rd world countries but I've been reading nasty story about myspace suing those comment spammers.

I don't steal any private data, I don't hack accounts, what I do is just using one of their feature to display my sites. Do you think they can go through all the hassle to sue me?

Definitely, if we are talking about ROI the ROI is definitely worth the effort. It's just this is the first time I do and research my spamming business seriously and suddenly the fear of consequences arose.

I think the feds have much more to worry about than some third world small-time (or not?) social networking spammer. Besides, unless you have cracked their captcha... spamming will be reaaaallllllllly s l o w . And if they don't have captcha, then the site you're spamming doesn't have much of an audience.

Unless you are doing extremely high amounts of spam, or are phishing accounts, I wouldn't worry about it.

You're safe. If you're stealing accounts and spamming then well... you would eventually be getting a knock for Fraud etc. etc.

How high is extremely high? I have over 50 accounts disabled daily but I am not phishing or anything.
But I have my sites displayed on various comments and pages around 20 hours a day.

You can technically sue anybody for anything, it's just a matter of whether you'll prevail in court or not. Some places sue first, and then negotiate an out of court settlement.

If your signing up for accounts even on a free site like my space with fake names that is identity theft. I recently read an article where some one was busted for using fake names to spam, ill see if i can find it. Basically they said the names belong to someone and since they did not belong to said spammer he had stolen someones identity by signing up with their names. Total bull shit in my opinion but this was how they charged him. So now i use names like darkwing duck and scooby doo when i sign up for accounts. Let them explain how i stole darkwing ducks identity to a judge.

But if your in a 3rd world country i wouldn't worry. If i was in a 3rd world country with little chance of being caught i cant tell you the things i would try to pull off.

Man I would worry at all if I was you, I mean as long as you keep some level of control over it you should be fine. Worst comes to worst you might get a mail from your net provider saying whats going on but thats should be about it.

put your back into. people have better things to do than come after you for spamming. like the guys said, all they will do is shut down your account and maybe ban your IP...but thats what proxies are for

If you do not spam a lot you are safe. If you spam a lot and you are outside USA you are safe.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on television, therefore you should listen to absolutely nothing I say below because I have no idea what I am talking about.

The important thing is there a law against it in your country? Let's say for example you live in...oh, let's pick Ecuador. If it's not illegal in Ecuador, then what are the possibilities that Myspace is going to have an expert in international and Ecuadorian law fly to Ecuador to serve you a subpoena or have you brought to court? I can't say for sure, but I do know the amount of people I'd have on staff would be about the same number of smart politicians that run America (Ron Paul excluded).

yea there not going to sue you... like the others said the most they are going to do is account/ip ban which is y we all love proxies.

Ditto...But here in the US we have opportunities such as bank accounts and easy affiliate acceptance. You can always hire out your work to the third world...
