Thoughts on ranking well for this?

Hey guys,

Just curious what you all think about this two-word search phrase I came across the other day.

Here's what the competition looks like at the moment:

Google search:

keyword = 11,000,000 sites
allintitle:keyword = 94,000 sites
allintitle:"keyword" = 1,630 sites

While there is SOLID amount of competition here, the actual quality of the competition is pretty weak. Their backlinks are hardly optimized, mostly "click here for" and shit, and while the number one site has around 2,000 backlinks, many are from garbage sites.

What do you guys think about these competition numbers? Just curious, regardless I am tackling it

You wont know if you will not try. But based on the operator searches, It is more likely that you will rank.. if optimized well.. goodluck.

I usually don't go after keywords with that much quantity competition, so wonder how other have dealt.

This is what really matters. If this is the case I would say you have a good chance of outranking them but it will take a little bit of time. 2,000 backlinks, shitty or not is still a reasonable number.

When I find a niche like this, there are two or three things that usually decide it for me.

1) Age of the top ranking domains - there may be 2,000 poor quality links, but if they've been there for ten years that's another matter.
2) Are there enough longtail and supporting phrases to make it worthwhile until I can rank for that special two word phrase. If I can make enough money and traffic from the supporting phrases to make it worthwhile, ill work on it until I have enough authority to rank for the two word phrase.
3) This one is just a bonus, the other two are more important. Can I get a keyword-rich domain? If yes, then it's a no-brainer.

Anyway, that's just my take on it. I'm sure other people have better ways of assessing things.

If this is the case, would it be easier to outrank them by writing a keyword optimized article and then post it to web 2.0 properties sitez or Ezinearticle as in my understanding Google gives quite a bit weight to these?

I agree with pdoods. Web 2.0 is the best option for this. A website would take a while to compete with these guys. I have been building link wheels (look it up) for such types of keywords and have been ranking very well. I do best with hubpages, squidoo, and vox.com . I hope this helps. Good luck!

Well if their back links are crap id say go for it, still check if there are at least good enough it probably wont be worth the hassle.
