301ing dropped domains

The dropped part is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is it the domain was deindexed. If it gets deindexed it loses all the link juice pointing to it. Doesn't matter if you get it re-indexed with new content or whatever. Doesn't work that way. If it's been indexed the whole time, then yes the link juice will flow through the 301. .

It doesn't matter if it was deindexed in the past, just whether it's indexed now.

Just type in G the following site:thedomain.com and it will show you any indexed pages. Even if it has no actual content indexed, as in the case where it's just a godaddy landing page holder or similar, it will still show just the url in the search results, with no other content around it.

If it doesn't return anything at all when you search per the above, it's not indexed.

The best results (that have worked for me) are when I do the following: -

1) Buy dropped domain
2) Drop a few articles on the homepage (unique content relating to the niche you are targeting)
3) 301 any pages that are indexed in Google to the homepage of the dropped domain
4) Let the domain sit for a few weeks (maybe even send some links to it) so it gets re-spidered by google
5) After a few weeks 301 it to your site
6) Send contextual links to the dropped (301 redirected domain) using something like GSA
7) Rince & repeat

How long does it take to deindex a site? I usually buy sites that had been deleted 2-10 days ago and all of them are still in the index (or at least I think so - I put the entire address into the search bar and it shows the site in the SERPs, sometimes even with some subpages).

BTW I do not redirect them directly to the moneysite, but rather to Tier2 web2.0 like a wordpress.com blog, Tumblr or something like this to eventually protect the site from any harms...
