So how do you make PPI soft?

Hello,
Did a bit of reading on this topic and to be honest PPI started to interest me, but not as publisher. Seems like with some O.K. Adware like new homepage, SERP injections and a bit of something else here and there, I could easily run bulletproof PPI campaign. But, how do I make a soft like this?? Are there any kits/dev packs that would allow me to build it easily and just checkbox all the shit I need? I guess not. So I guess the answer is hire a developer? If so, does anyone have approx knowledge of how much soft like this would cost me?

I looked into this myself today. I emailed a company that makes all kind of adware. I basically asked how much it would be to have a backend to display all of the useful information, and the extension itself would create text link ads, replace banners with your own ads, inject ads onto pages, replace search results with your own, and could do other things as well.

The estimate for this project was 40k USD. So basically, if you want a professional extension made for you, expect to pay around that much. Maybe some others are cheaper, but really I kind of expected this kind of estimate for this type of specialized development.

Without a fat wad and a team to support it, I'd say there are better ways to spend your time. First you have to make it run cross platform if its an extension. You don't just write one code and have it work for all 3 major browsers unless its done in pure javascript. Each browser is different. There are services out there who do an integrated pure javascript extention but they will take part of your traffic for providing the service.

Second there is a lot of rules with chrome, if you do something shady with the extension they will punish the extension, and the site where it was downloaded from (they see this via the chrome browser). If you aren't installing the extention via the chrome store, they take note on that as well. They rolled this out last month in response to the last year or so of ad injection attached or hidden inside another extension. So ad-injection is an uphill battle, even though some are still doing it, they are not messing with chrome (1/3 of your downloads). Furthermore you'll see these companies injecting and ad and NOT replacing them. Get caught replacing ads, and you better watch your ass for a lawsuit if you make real bank. If you think google seeing a few million users downloading an extension that removes their ads and injects yours is going to go unnoticed your wrong.

Say you do go through all the trouble and build one and monetize in a somewhat acceptable form (homepage swap), now there are rolling updates on the browsers gotta handle that as well. Say you manage all this, what kind of traffic volume you got? Your going to have users deleting the ext. and need to replenish them, you'll also need to run and target and manage ads, and build a backend to check your stats. Then sit around seeing what converts and managing this as it changes as well.

I'm not saying its impossible, but it ain't easy and you better bring some serious skills to the table, and do your homework. BTW. i didn't even bother mentioning the A/Vs that are going to start flagging you .

Yes, to make software with same features from scratch will be cost something like that. BUT you don't need to do it at all! For example we can make extensions and provide our monetization tools (banners, search injection, popups, etc) and share revenue with you up to 80%. All what needed from you in this case is only installs.

Exactly! You're right on 100%. There is very easy to violate google webstore policy if you're going to use ad in your extension. So developer must be very careful.

Oneclickbar does all it so publisher(developer) should be bother only at amount of installs.

Crossrider takes 10% of your cut off the top, kango i believe you have to pay a hefty yearly fee. None of these guys do this for free. Furthermore the google's rules are not clear at all and they are going to start unloading on this stuff. . . they state something like extension needs to have a 'single clearly defined purpose' . . tell me what single clearly defined purpose your going to add that they are going to approve with the topics we are covering here (ad injection, banners, etc. . lol.)

As for onequick bar never heard of it, but i'm sure it comes as a percent loss.

As for what your offering. . let me ask you this. . If its worth so much, and i can make sooooo much with your 80% revshare. . what will you offer me instead for just PPI of your own stuff? Lets say US traffic. Better make it good, cause from the methods you listed, you can be sure i can't add others to the bundle without massive cross-monitization problems.

Don't know about crossrider, but it make sense.
As for kango it's free for Chrome, Firefox and safari. But if you're going to use IE, you should buy a license (~$2K). And it make sense, why not?

Yeah, single orientered extension must be. But it can injects ad and don't violate policy, take a look :
this checkbox you can opt in and describe how your extension injects ads and Google will approve it.

Why you're talking 'percent loss'? You wrote before, that to make own good solution there are a lot of money and time needed. So developer can make great useful extension, promotes and distributes it, increases number of active users day after day and don't care regarding monetizations. And 20-30% this is a good price for profitable tools I think. No?

We have an experience in PPI and I can say with full confidence that rev-share model is better then PPI for both, if publisher real want to work:
1. We do monetizations, increase it quality, coverage, ROI, optimize feeds, ads for each extension, etc. And orientered only on it, not for checking installs quality.
2. Developer earns revenue even when he stopped doing installs
