What to do with aged, penalized in past domain?

Hello. I have 3-4 years old domain. 1-3 years ago I built many spammy backlinks to it. Website stayed in top 1-10 for months (main keyword), but finally got penalized/filtered (dropped from top10 to nowhere onn main kw). For the last year the domain stayed empty without any website.

What's better to do with this domain: creating a website with few high quality articles and start building quality backlinks in hope that google will forget its past or maybe just put 301 to another website for the same keyword?

Toss the domain all together. 301 is a bad idea too as the penalty could pass over to your new domain.

At this point it has zero SEO value, and there is no sense throwing good money after bad.

If your redirect your website with the help 301 redirection the 90-90% link juice to redirect domain that's why penalty is also passes to new website.so better get rid of it

It's a daunting task though some upheavals have happened in the past. Conduct a link audit in your site and use Google Disavow Tool to remove all your spam links and submit for reconsideration. In your reconsideration, clearly explain the situation and mention that the spam links are removed and it won't happen again. Good luck if it works.

I wouldn't recommend to use that D Tool. I just repeat what a wellknown bhatter told us on a presentation:
no one should use D Tool since it helps G to identify PBNs and other bhat link structures.
You should manually remove those spammy links instead.

OP, you should follow davethompson and start a new site or remove spammy backlinks. It depends on the quality of your old website and how many spammy backlinks you have and how easily you can remove them.

Wait a week or two, then send in a reconsideration request, stating that you just bought the domain. If you've already had it in your WMT account, create a different WMT account for this one.

It's a good idea, but I already started doing it another way.

One week ago I moved the domain to another host, today I set up new website with some content, added it to GWT with sitemap and everything and wait.

I'm going to build few quality backlinks in the next few days. As you suggest, I will send a reconsideration request after 1-2 weeks from now and I won't touch Disavow Tool.

Meanwhile I checked the position - about 150 on main keyword.

its pretty simple.
Move it to another registar
create a new WT account
send them a message to remove the penalties coz you just order that domain
wait a few days
Create a new website or whatever

Yeah you're right, I won't recommend D tool anymore. Removing links manually seems to be a defensive play.
