They remove backlink relevance and we go back to an age of markov generated content, keyword stuffing and other shit that would destroy them in no time. As he has said backlinks are a really good indicator of the popularity of a website. Social signals still result in backlinks its just that the term social signals has become a buzz word for a specific type of content that can include mentions (a.k.a backlinks) to your websites/webpages.

It's quite difficult to keep an eye on every thread because this site is inhabited by people around the world with different timezones. Nevertheless if you don't sleep or have people working for you monitoring this place, In that case you have a chance to never miss a thread.
