WTH is this domain for sale?!

Hi,

So screwing around on GD Auctions and I come across this domain....

For those of you who are unaware of what the IMF is, it's only the largest financial institution in the world. While one part of me says here's a great domain to add to a PBN which could help rank you for payday loans (or country to country loans), the other part of me says Godaddy is full of crap and doesn't actually have a domain for sale. Any theories on this and why it is up for sale on GD? some sort of scam?

Lets hear the ideas.

It has to be a scam. No way is for sale. That's like whitehouse.gov being on godaddy auctions. It's ridiculous I don't believe it's legit.

If it does sell, someone at IMF will definitely get fired for negligence.

Final result, IMF will payout nicely to whom ever is current owner. Even though it's there name, i'm sure they'll want it back asap with as little BS as possible.

The thing that confuses me is I thought you had to be the owner to list it for auction! I wonder how this got on Godaddy. Either their owner check isn't really working, or Godaddy is pulling some tricks here. I wonder if they offer random high value domain names to try and get people to signup for auctions? That brings them in some money? Ideas here folks - conspiracies and all I want to hear them!

Austerity measures finally hit the IMF too? Thanks SkyrocketSEO for contacting them for us. Please let us know what they say. My best guess is this is some sort of Godaddy ploy to offer amazing domains at auction (with reserve never met) to get more IM'rs to buy a subscription to their auction service. That's the only angle I can see so far.

Either that or someone at the IMF is about to lose their job...

UPDATE

Conntacted GoDaddy and they confirmed it is for sale. Noticed it is going through SEDO so I went to SEDO, contacted them and also contacted IMF. Waiting for the answers. Might even write an article about all this and post it on my site

The scammer here is Godaddy. I don't buy shit from that f'ed up place. They stole 6 domains from me and listed them in the auction and told me they couldn't help me and to buy them back from the auction. FUCK GoDaddy!!

It was about time that they took some of their own medicine...
It's a pity that this is fake, no way the IMF would let the domain go to auction! They may screw hole countries and put people in poverty, but they sure know how to take care of themselves.
it must be some kind of maneuver from Godaddy.

It's likely either a mistake or a glitch in my opinion.

Of course, it's possible a hacker gained access to the domain account.

Does anyone know how SEDO checks for domain ownership? Are they like Godaddy? Do they actually verify it is owned by you? Or do you just have to upload a file maybe?

Sure thats valuable, but imf.org is currently used by one of THE most powerful financial bodies in the world. Something about this just doesn't add up, I see no reason why they would sell their current domain, because they aren't going to just not have a website
