As a lot of people here, I'm a freelancer selling my own marketing services. But I want to take the next step and create more business so I can grow the business. Unfortunately I cant afford to hire a key account manager with big contact network yet, as they cost a lot. But I'm able to hire interns, and if they prove they are good and they do make actual sales, I will be then able to hire them.

Is this a good strategy? Did you guys had a big budget before taking the same steps as me?

what are you planning on having your key account manager do? seems like something that you should be doing if you are just starting this business. I could be wrong, and not sure what this person would be doing. You could also try to maybe give some percentage of the company and you have the option to buy it back when you can pay him. You would have to draw up contracts for this.

I was thinking about getting more sales, to grow the business. I've been freelancing for a couple of years now.

I think your strategy is quite good enough. Interns are always good and you may hire them at cheap price too. Before that, you should train them and for this purpose you may hire a senior expertise to consult them or you may done it by yourself.

I am in the same boat as you are OP, problem is the sales to get from when I start the business. Are you partnering with a sales guy or you do it too?

Problems are nothing but excuses. There are always ways to get around them.

Tons of us on this forum had NOTHING when we started, yet somehow we managed to make it through and grow.

It is not about hiring an account or some other dumb stupid shit. It is about having a solid plan to achieve your short, medium and long term goals.

There are always ways...
