My site got taken down, have tostart over again.

So this was my first venture into the world of online marketing; i did my homework, read a lot, put in hours into my site, and put in effort into writing everything on my site.

Then i got the ball rolling trying to get traffic to my site. I bought some back links through BHW, well, to make it short, my site got taken down and i had to cancel my account. Apparently it had too many MYSQL databases; i have no idea what this means.

It's kind of discouraging to be honest. All that work, gone in a blink.

Anyways, i'm back down to zero and i want to start again, but this time around I'm looking for a bit of advise as to what to do to avoid getting my site taken down.

Surely other people have come a crossed this:

Where do you host? This is my main concern at the moment, since i took a $50 hit after refund, and that's a lot for me right now.
What kind of traffic services should i avoid?

I'm trying to avoid going through this again.

What do you mean with taken down? You got kicked from your host for violating his rules or you got a manual google penalty, or what do you actually mean?

Who's your host? Sounds like a rinky dink piece-of-shit operation to me. Try HostGator, they're solid.

you should have asked them for a backup of website and tried to host it elsewhere.if it had cpanel then cpanel takes monthly/weekly/daily backups. starting from scratch is not easy.

i don't have a website but i have few clients and based on that Limited experience i can recommend Bluehost shared plan (it is good) , Hostgator cheapest plan is pretty useless.
for a website with MySql, netter buy a plan having atleast 100mb of memory.

FYI:- MySQL database is where the Data of website is saved. if you have wordpress installed then it has one database.
like on this forum all this text you are reading is saved in a database. all images etc are saved on server Hard disc.

It was Bluehost, and they took down my site but left my account active to 'fix' my problem. The only problem was, however, that i had no idea what they were talking about. That was the second time they had taken down my site so i decided to cancel my account.

I'll look into hostgator. Are they strict?

I have all the articles. That was my main concern. The aesthetics i can get back in about half a day.

And i had bluehost so i don't think I'll try them again.

what exactly Bluehost told you? surprisingly i had moved website from hostgator to bluehost , as hostgator guys were disabling website due to excess use of Resources/CPU.Same website when moved to bluehost didnt gave any problem and client is hosting it there only. so my first impression was bluehost is good.

now thing is all companies have various plans like Shared hosting and VPS/Dedicated servers.if your website is throwing a error on shared hosting of bluehost then moving it to shared hosting of Hostgator might not be correct solution.

Another webhost i know is wpengine but i think they are pricey.

Try Certified hosting. I use both them and Hostgator.
Hostgator DOES disable accounts for using too much resources so its only my small sites.
I never had that problem with Certified Hosting.

Could you not have kept your website open to fix and just payed someone to transfer your website and databases from bluehost to hostgator? Rather than start again, times money nd I just couldn't close hours of work..

That's disappointing man, but it doesn't sound like anything you did on your end so dont get discouraged. Just live and learn, now you'll never make the same mistake again and never have to deal with this problem moving forward.

I didnt read all the replies but if your problem is that your host suspended you, that's a non-issue. just sign up with another host and you have your site back.

Firstly, Hostgator and Bluehost are the exact same company. Just different names.

Secondly, you don't have to start over. You just need someone's help. What they probably told you is that your site is using too many "MYSQL Queries" (not databases). There are ways to fix this! You do not need to cancel your account. I would contact them back to re-open your account and see if they can restore a backup. They will usually keep a backup for about 14 days.

It sounds like this has nothing to do with search engines, so you can keep using your website and domain. One thing you have to realize first is that Bluehost/Hostgator is a shared Web Hosting company. That means your website files/databases are on a computer with potentially thousands of other websites. If your website is too much for their servers, then they are going to shut you down.

The real question is, why is your website using too many MYSQL Queries? It can be a for a lot of reasons. It could be because your website is getting too much traffic. However, there are plugins you can install that can loosen the load on their database servers by caching information (Super Cache for example). If all else fails, all you have to do is move your website to another Web Hosting company. Preferably one that offers VPS (Virtual Private Server) or Dedicated servers so that you're on a server with less/no other people. I suspect this scenario would not be the case for you as you would need to be getting a lot of traffic.

Another reason could be that your site is just poorly coded. Maybe you could try to find someone to have a look over your code for you. Some other reasons this could be happening is due to a poorly coded plugin, or simply just too many plugins. Even a theme in some cases.

Whatever is going on, if you don't understand, you need to find someone to help you. But just know, you don't need to start anything over. They're not holding your files hostage or deleting them or anything like that. Your site just doesn't work on their servers for some reason or another, and you're able to move that SAME website to another Web Host. Just hope that it's not too late now since you cancelled your account with them.

It got taken down after buying "traffic"? What they said to you probably was that the site was running too many database transactions.
If you have Wordpress and no caching set up, this can happen pretty easily.

Wouldn't even have to do that. Jeez, I would have just got an FTP client and downloaded all of my files. Then logged into phpmyadmin and grabbed the database. Although I guess it might not even be possible after he cancelled the account. However, they sometimes take a couple days to cancel. They would also probably provide him with the files even after the account is cancelled. Sometimes may charge a fee though.
