Found a Great Niche , need advice

Hi guys , clearly the tittle is a little bit missleading from some point of view , but here we go .

Note. I'm newbie at reaserching niches and IM overall , so don't get over judgemental on me.

So I'm doing some niche reaserch for adsense/blog purpose . And I came across this niche, that to my understanding is a great niche. It had around 8k monthly searches (US local) and 22k global. It has 4,70$ CPC asocciated with it 1.40% clickthrough rate (w/e that means) . But what scares me is the competition in top 10 , most of the sites that rank in top 10 for this niche is the authority of those sites , most of those domains have the authority of 90-100 and it drops at around 8th-10th place of page 1 . Page authority that ranks for this keyword varies between 1-80 , mostly below 60. They all have very fiew backlinks to them from 0 to 1k .

I hope I have provided the information needed . I can provide more detailed information about the top 10 competition if needed.

Any advice ? Suggestion or tip ? Is it possible for newbie to conquer this kind of niche ?

The domain authority alone doesn't tell me enough about the competition, for example a free .wordpress blog will have that but the site may be poor. Look at the backlink quality (not just the number - are they spammy, do they come from major sites like wikipedia?), PR (of the ranking page), Page authority (again, only of the ranking page).

To be honest with you, if an article has 1k contextual backlinks, it will be extremely hard to outrank it. However, if it's spammy comment backlinks and what-else, go for it.

Don't worry that much about domain authority, it's far from being the most important metric.

Try to look at the MozRank, Page Authority and # of do-follow links instead. Also, look at the quality of backlinks by using a tool such as ahrefs or opensiteexplorer. Check to see if the keyword is in the title and url, etc.

That will give you a better idea as to whether or not you can rank for this keyword.

I was obviously not talking about the domain # of do-follow links but the page # of do-follow links.

Try to see if there are any pages with Page Authority less than 30. Getting your niche PA to 30 is moderately hard, 40 is quite challenging and 50 is extremely hard. I once saw this guy get his PA to 57 but he literally had 150 expired domains all set up and have a single link to his site (the 150 websites all had a PA of 30-40). Domain authority is not all that important although it plays a big role. I use longtail pro as it gives me the keyword competition as a number which tells me the average difficulty.

Don't be afraid of competition. If the niche is good and you can develop it further (not just a few keywords), go for it.

You can start by targeting the longtails, it's a lot easier to rank for them and you can funnel the traffic to whatever page you want them to go to.

Once you get traffic, you can go for bigger KWs.

You'll get traffic faster, cash flow and visitors' feedback (analytics stats). whatever traffic you get you can funnel to the important pages, or retarget them with cheap ads. It's the same audience after all.

Corem, this really seems like a great site for you to take on as a project. Regardless of what the ranking competition is, it will teach you a lot about SEO and provide you with a long term project to hone your skills. I'm happy you found something like this, because I immediately entered the business trying to compete with the credit report stuff.

Use this site and the knowledge you already have to get to #1. If you don't at least try, you'll kick yourself in the ass for it later!
