is taking articles from enzine and rewriting them so that they are 100% unique good or bad for seo? I heard that google can tell the difference between an original article and a rewritten one.

Never heard of that. If you write or rewrite it it's original content. I don't believe google can tell the difference. There are a lot of articles saying the same thing but only through different words. Hell, for some googel searches the first 5 results were all talking about the same thing only through different perspectives.

Rewriting = new & unique content. Nothing wrong with that. Just make sure it's not stuffed with keywords. You'll be fine.

Someone posted here some time ago about making money using text spinners, the spinner encodes the article so when you copy and paste it into google, it appears original and there are no results, but the problem is if you write some of the text rather than copy it, it shows up.

It sounds like you're referring to stop-word spinners.

I do it many times already. I look for interesting articles at EZA related to the niche I'm working and rewrite them...sometimes, improve the quality of the article. All done manually. EZA is also a good place to gather article ideas.

I'm not sure about using spinners.

Why would it be bad for SEO? I mean if you're rewriting the article it's a different article so why would that hurt your SERP's?

I heard that google can detect changed articles (I think this was just for poorly spun articles) and if google can detect that it was rewritten it will get flagged as duplicate content. Through some more research I have found out that google detects poorly spun articles ex. Original: The dog was fast and strong. Poorly spun: The puppy was fast and strong. Rewritten: The dog was very quick and muscular. I was worried that even though I was rewriting the articles google would flag it as duplicate content since it contained the same information as the original but rewritten. Long story short duplicate content hurts serps which is bad for seo.

I Wonder if Google has such a tool to detect. However if an article is completely paraphrased in own words using synonyms then it is itself a unique content.. but a writer should undergo a deep research instead of being dependant..
