Guest Posting Penalized - Now What?

Uh?? What a brain ? They are all thinking depth "Guest Post" Penalty.

Guest posts are still some of the strongest links possible. You just need them on semi-decent or relevant sites and not have your profile 100% guest posts like you could before. If everyone listened to Matt Cutt's scare tactics there would be no links.

Guest posting still works fine as long as you don't "guest post" on people's PBN on BHW.

you sure? why then in bhw high pr blog post service is selling good? what is the difference between guest post and high pr blog post and private blog network post?

From watching MC on the videos, he is saying that a do-foll** link from a blog post that comes from a spammy site, will hurt your SEO.

If a link is no-foll** it will not pass PR, and those are fine.

Google is paying attention to the quality of sites you are linking to as well as from nowadays. If you have links from a "bad" site to your site they will hurt you, but now even links FROM you to a spamy site will hurt you.

Its sort of like associating yourself with nice sites as opposed to hanging around the wrong crowd.

These services are selling good because right now they work. The next crying round is when they start applying these penalties on a widespread basis.

Giigle and Matt Cutts has been takling about this for 2 years, it's going to have a huge effect very soon.

I was wrong that it is devaluiing the links. Devaluing would have made a lot more sence tghan the way they are going aout it, but they are actually talking penalties now.

As usual it's with the standard Google Caveat:

If you are doing it to promote your business, its supposedly OK, but if you are doing it for SEO, its not.
They never tell you where the dividing line is though.

It still boils down to quality, and I suspect there is some sort of threshold volume wise where you cross over into the spam area.

Links from a quality site that is related to your niche or location are not going to hurt, at least not yet. A year ago I would have said "links from a quality site will never hurt you.", but I no longer believe that.

it's not penalized you just need to be very picky with the sites you want linking to you.

This is only to scare people not to use guest posting. It is not dead and will never be

thx for the clarification Techxan. But if links from quality sites can hurt me then I've nothing to say lol.. it is like you are wrong to donate blood although in common most of the people agreed donate blood to the needy should get some appreciations and it's a good practice.

I just found (a few weeks late) that guest posting is now officially penalized. So if we wanna go completely white hat, what's there to do, what other link building methods are there that don't get penalized?

Build site
Sit back
Hope

Anything other than that is Black Hat. (Well some "social engagement" isn't I suppose - but good luck ranking with that alone in a tough niche)

Google are preparing for the end of Page rank by devaluing - to the point of ZERO - various metrics they previously used. Some link types are in that mix I'm sure.
Fact is if you want to rank you're going to have to break some rules, and that means taking a risk

That's business though, all business not just web based or SEO.
Also remember LINKS ARE NOT JUST FOR GOOGLE
Many sites get over 50% of their traffic (and well over 60% of sales) through a first tier that has NOTHING to do with Google.
In many respects I couldn't give a fuck if they get upset at my link building - I don't build links for them - I don't care that much if my main site doesn't rank in their index that much. (A little of course - I'm not stupid, I'd like as much decent traffic as I can get - but IF Google banned my sites 100% tomorrow - I'd live - my business would stutter then continue to grow)
Google aren't the internet police - or the link police. Their attitude to people's none Google optimization SUCKS. They take the attitude that "If you're doing optimization - then it must be to impress us and us alone"

Guess what Google. NO IT ISN'T YOU ARROGANT PRICKS

Don't get so hung up on Google. If you are building links JUST to get Google Serps, that's when you might want to reconsider your plan if you want to play the "long term safe" game.

And short term (3-6 months) spam and bank works probably better now than it EVER did.

New sites with a few thousand links rank like frikking crazy for a few months, by then, if you're smart, they've made you a few thousand dollars, and when they get hit you can ditch the domain and start another. Never known a time in the last 15 years when Rank and Bank has been easier than it is now - For the last 18 months it's been stupid easy and people are making a fortune doing it.

It's not long term, but who gives a flying frik when you're minting it like that?

Scritty

Not withstanding that the tighter the rules are the easier and easier negative SEO gets.

And don't make out that Google knows the providence of every link "This was made by the site owner spamming...but this was made by someone doing negative SEO on the site"

The tighter the rules on linking the easier negative SEO becomes as the facts about a sites link providence is forced out like sand between the fingers of Google's ever squeezing hands.

FYI

I've heard clients getting unnatural link warning notices for buying multiple guest posts a month. So yes, you can get a manual penalty notice for guest posting if you're doing them a dozen times a month. I know this because my friend owns an SEO agency that sells guest posts. A lot of his clients that bought only guest posts (and lots of them) just got notices.

Confirmed,
got my best site penalized around 20th of January, recovered partially as for now. Second reconsideration request was sent after disavowing most of blog posts/guest post with do follow keywords and posts with keywords/brand in bio, and deleting everything we could. Now I can only pray.
Also, our partners got penalized for 50 blog and guest posts. So yes, the guest post penalty is officially alive for me.

Hi, sorry, but I can't send private messages.

your posts are pretty high quality, so I don't think you got penalty, at least if you have not posted obvious keywords in anchor text. For the penalized site we bought massive number of posts, more than 20 a month, but the site itself is old and have more than 20k links plus posts from mashable, thenextweb and dailymail (and massive repost after). Also we did a few blog network postings. But I don't think networks is a reason (it could be actually). The thing is, as I already said in my post, other site got a penalty too, at the same time, they had 20 old comments in profile and 50 posts made in 2-3 months, they are both guest and in content. Comments was disavowed, but site is still "violating guideline participating in link schemes ". The sites where we and other site posted are like "average real site" not yahoo, but not a shitty blog network.

As for me, I think the reason is footprint - guest post + do follow keyword. So from now we are turning only to incontent editorial link posts or reviews.

I think you will be good, until not creating guest-post footprint and just get a post with a link to site.

I am not a native English speaker, so you can ask me if something is too hard to understand )

Makes sense to me. Depending on your website, if you're doing more than 10 guest posts a month, you're bound to get hit. Think about it, what's the probability of a normal website receiving 20 natural guest posts a month? Very, very slim. Now if you're the Hilton Hotel, then that's a different ball game and people will always be naturally writing articles and linking out to you like crazy each month. But if you're Joe Moe's Shop, then no way in HELL you're receiving THAT many guest posts unless you're actively buying/purchasing them yourself.

Google is all about using probability analysis in their algorithm. Always think, what is the "likelihood" of this type of action (guest post, link building etc) happening on a specific type of website/business/brand each month. Once you figure that out, you'll be in good shape.

The same logic is applied to anchor text ratio. What is the "likelihood" that everyone who links to your website is using the EXACT same keywords that are in your title tag? Very, very very low. Anything more than 1% is generous IMO. You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than someone linking to your website with the exact match anchor text (unless of course you're doing it yourself) :)

A couple of things.

1. I have had sites penalized and now if you ask they will give an example of a link that may be causing a penalty. 100% of the time (for me) the example they have given me was an anchor optimized link. Never have I been shown a link that was generic or plain anchor. This may not be the case for everyone, but it is for me.

2. Another point, if you listen to Google they have all but devalued every single link type but if you listen closer you know this cannot possibly be true.
Why would I say link spamming will get you penalized (no matter where the links are coming from) if links don't have value? If links do not count, they simply would not count, they could not push you up or down either way if they had no (or little) value.

3. Some people are saying guest posting has been sliding for quite some time, yet my former employer (65% guest post links) is ranking in the top 20 for almost 1,000 keywords and it goes up each and every month. But they work with HUGE brands and they do no low rent or shady stuff. The articles are written by professional writers, the quality is impeccable, the articles find homes on extremely high authority sites and the guest posts requests are sent by an individual to hand picked sites. No automation involved, just a huge budget and lots of time.

4. The sites your links go on and how you frame your links will make a difference. If your link in the body of the article about blue widgets is "Blue Widgets" and then in your bio you write "Joe Smith buys all his Blue widgets from Blue Widgets.com", then you dont understand what Guest Posting is. If your article about blue widgets has a link that looks more like this "maybe these items will help with your widget problems " which points to bluewidgets.com and your bio says "Joe Smith is a freelance blogger and you can find more of his opinions here" and that also points to your bluewidgets.com site then you are not optimizing text and not forcing keywords into an article. Besides, what self respecting blog owner wants a keyword optimized article when all they are looking for is great content for their readers.

Last but not least, at one point every single TYPE of link has been penalized. Guest posts, blog posts, web 2.0's, article submissions, profile links and others yet there are thousands of sites that rank with those exact links. Some get smacked others stick around, why? The appearance of the link is what matters and where it is coming from also matters. A good site with traffic that places your non optimized link on it WILL help with traffic and it will also help with rankings and why wouldnt it? As long as Google's Algo values or devalues links, then links will still be a (and maybe THE) major factor in ranking. If they remove links as a factor, I am pretty sure we will all know very quickly.

Thats just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth.

Seems legit, so no footprints like guest-post or author bio links, if you are doing SEO, and not promoting yourself. Just natural link from a post and you wont be a guest blogging spammer. Good idea, if it is not review of your product or site, is to add some more links to authority sites to make a post more editorial. If there is a blog on your site, create an author for him, connect it with G+ and promote your blog+author.

What's next ?

Penalized because your hosting the site geeeeeeee
I'm fed up with SE's and mainly G !

Guest posting will not get you penalised... It works just as good as it has always done! Matt Cutts comes out with statements like this when he know's there is nothing they can do to stop it! So they try and scare you into not doing it anymore... Although I can't see why they would want to stop it because it's creating more good quality info accross the net... and how can they possibly distinguish between a guest post and a genuine share in an article!!
