Google not displaying the targeted pages for KWs?

I have some weird problems with some of my client sites.

Basically, I have two sites that I have accepted SEO gigs for that both have this weird problem. I wrote some really good articles for them (500-700 words long, pictures, lists, bolded KWs, etc) and sent some simple backlinks. Those KWs have around 350 volume monthly.

Now what Google seems to be doing is indexing and putting other pages on those websites for that KW, not the inner page that I have posted the good article on. For example, one of the page displays price page (service name and price list, no other content) instead of the article page.

These are non english KWs.

Why is this so? Any ideas? Any links to blog posts about this welcome, anything really, thanks.

Your targeted keyword pages are probably over-optimized for the keyphrase either off-site, on-site, or both.

So how would I fix this? Post more content (to make the KW % less) or un-bold the KWs?

First, are the new pages you added indexed yet? If not, that's the first thing to do first before looking at over-optimization.

If it is indexed but a less optimized page is ranking for the keyword instead of the page you want, chances are the page is overtopimized.

You can lower the keyword % on page either by adding more content, reducing the exact keyword usage (don't take it out from the title and h1), reducing the internal links going to the page with the exact keyword anchor, or increase your off-site anchor diversity to dilute it this way.

A quick weird question/idea - do you think it would do anything good if I was to take the ranking pages content, copy/paste it onto a web2.0 with a BL to the page I want to rank on and build Tier2?

It's better to use unique content, but I've done what you're talking about before with success (content syndication to your own web 2.0 property). It works for very low competition keywords. Make sure you link back to the original source though.

I have a site in a low competition niche that I was experimenting on with about 80% syndicated content tier 1, and it ranks well. Very stable too. I wouldn't do this for stronger terms though.
