That would literally require creating a functional program from scratch, that would perform several required tasks. And later maintenance. It will require time and instant availability at all times, consider this as a full time job.

Why would you want someone skilled in multiple languages? You only use one language for a project. You'd want someone who's also got a good functional knowledge of javascript and jquery as well as solid database experience for a typical web project, but other than that one language is used for the backend.

One language takes years to master and all the best developers specialize in 1 language. The way the human memory works is it gradually forgets things over time so it's not feasible to master multiple languages. Developers master one language but learn other languages in order to develop their thinking and learn new ways of approaching and solving problems. Even a Ruby or Python programmer who's good at javascript will only scratch the surface of javascript for frontend functionality so an intermediate knowledge is all that's required. If they learned javascript in great detail they would forget it within a year or 2 because they're not using those parts of the language on a regular basis.

You left out the most important consideration anyway, which is compensation. I guarantee you that the only developers who would respond to an ad like this are the ones who can't write good software and are desperate to make a quick buck having more than likely spent 6 months reading their first programming book and writing a couple of programs.

$200/day is the minimum for a real-world programmer. Most of these freelancers you see online competing for cheap projects are not the same people who work for the corporations building real software.

Some of you code runners help me out here. I need a few small programs made, standalone windows applications.

For instance I need a calculator program that will add up the square footage in a house and multiply the area by a cost per square foot to give the customer an estimate of how much it will cost. I would like them to be able to compare three vendors side by side.

They would add the dimensions of the rooms and the program would calculate the sq footage. Then they add in the price per sq foot of the carpet and pad for a total cost. This needs to save as vendor 1-3 so they can compare final costs of three vendors.

I know nothing about programing except that I would rather have an appendectomy without anesthesia than write code.

How much time would such a piece of software take? Is that a day's worth of work?

I need this software to be my property as I will use it for Pad submission links, it cannot be web based or a plugin.

By the sound of it, it can be done in just a few hours, not days. Of course, if you are distributing or selling the software, then it might take a bit longer (more thorough testing, better UI, etc.). PM sent
