Newbie SEO Question - multiple domains

I'm looking for some insight into how to drive as much search engine traffic to my site as possible. I have the following domains:

GooberNetwork, GooberReviews, GooberOutlet, etc.

My goal is to drive as much traffic to GooberNetwork as possible. My limited research on SEO indicates that I want to have external sites pointing to my real one, thus the purchase of those additional domains.

But what kind of content shall those additional domains contain? Clearly they should contain some links to my primary site. But what kind of elements should be included on these "pointer" sites? What does Google look for? What are the red flags? For example, would the fact that all of the pointer sites are hosted at the same IP address be a red flag? Shall I configure my server array so as to ensure each site has a different IP? Are there certain words or meta tags that I should include?

Sorry for such a basic question but am not sure where to start. Not sure if it matters, but I'm providing a specific niche financial service. It's not an ad-driven site. I'm just trying to get as many people as possible to sign up for the service so as to generate credit card swipes, etc.

I would recommend for starters removing your site name from this thread. a simple G search of "GooberNetwork, GooberReviews, GooberOutlet," already shows it as being indexed. If someone outside the realm of BHW looks up your goober brand BHW will show up and instantly you will be judged by the public just for being on this site as they know nothing about it.


If you have a strong brand reenforce it with solid no-nonsense content. REAL articles. People will read right through cheesy garbage so take time to write some really good promos.

Hi. "Goober" is a placeholder I used for the purposes of this post. It's not my actual domain. For example, if my business were car parts, I'd be using CarPartsNetwork, CarPartsReviews, CarPartsOutlet. If GooberNetwork actually is a registered domain, it's not mine. It was just meant as an example.

Thanks for the suggestion about creating no-nonsense content. Wish I could pay someone to do that. Sounds onerous. The no-nonsense content is ready to go at GooberNetwork (the primary). It's pretty compelling stuff. It's just the content of the pointer sites that confuses me.

Hi jesse_pinkman. What I would suggest is to do a little bit of competition analysis and drive your content ideas from them. At the same time I would suggest going to question and answer sites like Yahoo answers, typing in your keywords and get content ideas from there (google loves content that answers users questions).

The content in itself needs to be focused around your main keywords but needs to also include long tail and LSI keywords in the body.

Start writing that content and post it on your support sites. Link sparingly to your main site and authority sites (like youtube, wikipedia, sites in your niche). Also, you can develop more content around your existing content and post it on the support sites.

Have a mix of links to your money site and to other sites of 1 to 3-4.

By the way, I hope that your support sites have different IPs and you didn't use the same contact information on all of them - that's a huge footprint.

Going back to content, keep the best stuff on your main site/money site and then post stuff that directs to it on your support sites.

Hey, thanks buddy. That's good info. I followed your advice and bought the privacy option for the domains (domains by proxy). I was hoping that hosting all the domains using the same IP (that of the Amazon load balancer) wouldn't be a problem but what you're saying makes sense. I'll set up a different load balancer for each site so each one will have a different IP.

The idea is to create links from authoritative domains. You can register a hundred domains and still get nowhere, because your domains are brand new and have no link juice.

The correct backlinking strategy is to work on getting quality links to Goober Network alone. You can get links through guest posting, link suggestions, DMOZ, or maybe buying a few high PR links (from the site owners, not from BHW).

Thanks for the tips. I had never heard of DMOZ until your post.

One thing that concerns me: I've been advised to use Domains By Proxy to obscure the fact that multiple domains are owned by the same entity. But the Wikipedia article for "Domains By Proxy" claims that using a domain proxy service negatively impacts Google page ranks. Is this the case?
