301 Redirects. Which domain is better?

I want to use 301 redirects to rank my site.
main keyword is :download movies" (non-English)
I find 2 old domain to 301
1. 80k backlinks (25k Follow) , 1001 .gov ref domain ,130 .edu ref , DA : 45 , main kw : Matt!
2. 180k Backlinks ( all Follow! ) no .gov ref domain , no .edu , DA 40 , main kw : a brand name

Which is better?

Brand names get you into penalties if you are not the owner as credit is given to the owner of that brand 99% of the time. Probably why that brand is up for expiration/renewal.

hit web archive up and see what that site was really about then make that judgement. You could always do a 301 reidrect with maybe a header masking something like "Matt's guide to free online movies"

This MAY sway some serp in the proper direction however if this matt website was not movie or entertainment related you might see some weird serp action. I call this the "Organ Donor Matching Services"

I'm not affiliated with them or anything but I do use masking and have not been penalized but I only use it on those domains that are "off niche" that need to have somewhat relevant data attached to them.

Usually the hosting company you are dealing with will have that as an Advanced setting in the 301 options.

The masking needs to be done through your hosting company or you have to redirect it twice at that point it's not worth it.

You can do it manually through your htaccess file


I believe this is the code you need for your file. ( You may want to search out a thread on htaccess and message the OP and verify this or to find a better way)

Looks sketchy bro, I never have used them and honestly do not know enough about them to make that decision. I would go with the htaccess method if possible. Maybe call your domain hosting company and just ask them to do it for you. Chances are they will do it for you even if it's not an onsite option. Many of those companies have crappy interfaces but the admins have more access to functions that are rarely used.

I use godaddy sometimes. Just hit the advance feature and fill in the information keywords and all other meta data. Now another important thing to avoid penalties is to get the 301 into google webmaster by ADDING the domain to your list of webmaster sites. This will get things rocking for you and also show you broken links you can capitalize on. You can also get connected with a linkjuice keeper plugin (but be careful with it as your new 301 may get too much non niche related traffic and it could raise flags and literally change the niche you are ranking for)
