I wonder if anyone can shed a little light on this for me.

I have a couple of site in the same niche one ranking page 1 the other page 4. I 301 redirected the Page 4 one to the other one to give it that extra push.

Now the redirected one has lost its rankings!! is that normal..

Cheers

if there's some penalty on the 2nd site the redirect you did for sure will impact the 1st site as the 301 redirec passes not only the rank juice but the penalties as well

Hmm I thought that so I redirected another site I had and that lost rankings to. So got to be more to it that penaltys it happens literally 2 days after. But sure one is better than ever. Any other ideas

First remove redirect and see what happens. If it was algo, it should roll back. Then make a test with some other site and see what happens

Yer tried that the first site I did it with sites on page five when it was page 2 I'm literally stumped. Thanks for the help it's pissing me off

What are you saying? The site that you intiated the 301 redirect on i.e. Site A is being redirected to site B??? and site A lost its rankings? Well of course, Site A is now Site B. All rankings will disappear from it as it is now a permanent redirect to Site B.

Also 301 takes a couple of weeks to fully propagate.

Sorry, but that's terrible advice. 301 takes two weeks to finish. Starting and removing a 301, and doing it to another site is just going to leave you with a mess of shit on your hands. Leave the 301 and let it finish.

When you redirect a site, google de-indexes it.

You are telling google the site doesn't exist at this URL anymore, and it now resides at the location the redirect points to.

What did you think a redirect does?

of course the 301 redirect site has lost rankings, it has no content anymore as its just a redirect.

I know what a redirect does but wasn't sure on the result on a ranking domain hence the question. But thanks for the advice it solid. Thought it was something of this nature and thanks cool.dude loved your spam thread keep it going. :) cheers chaps.

Wait, guy. Make sure that the content is similar/related, or your juice can go away. If you had cloned the page, in 2 weeks or a little more, your rankings will came back.
