PHPBUILT's Idiot-Proof Guide to Authority Site Building

Thanks for all of the info....new,current info for onsite seo is sorely lacking on the forums...most of it is offsite/linking which is great, but I like maximizing effects with the best possible complimenting onsite setup. So this sort of testing and data is great.

Studied and enjoyed the whole thread, and had these remaining questions/comments:

The main thing I am still conflicted on is...some posts refer to using kw density tools just for the main body/article text and gave the specific %'s to max out at for 1,2, and 3 word kw. "It's assumed you're going to use the keyword in the meta description once. Use Quirk Searchstatus firefox plugin to tell you the pages keyword density. The "Body" is where the 1% or 1.5% comes in." But other posts talk about density problems from too many kw inclusions outside of the main text...the title/h1's/etc wherever the theme injected them.

So we just use that plugin to check the main body and keep that under the % maxes listed, and then manually make sure that the rest of the theme does not have keywords stuffed in there outside of the main title and perhaps h1 tag?

Are stop words exempt from the 2% max rule?

It was mentioned to move css/javascript to external files...for speeding up site load time correct? Is there a good plugin for wp, or some other method to do this easily? What about non-wp sites?

Wow. I didn't even realize how many mistakes I've been making with my current Wordpress sites. I fixed everything now. Thank you so much PHP, you're awesome!

Let me try to answer your question about the "body". The "body" in SearchStatus firefox plugin refers to the entire page (not just the post area) but excludes the meta description, meta keywords and title tag.

All the density numbers OP mentioned are referring to the body value in SearchStatus.

Use natural language, stop words don't matter as long as it's natural, try autoptimize or combine js/css manually if you know how

What do you think guys about keyword density/stuffing in price comparer sites that have names of all offers from different stores for one product e.g. iPhone 5 free delivery, white iPhone 5 etc. on one page? Is it wrong? How to fix it?

I think these type of sites usually rank with the power of their domains... they have a very strong trust and authority that mitigate the "bad" on page optimization.

Just read part 1 and now i think i was completely doing wrong for my wordpress website. I completely trust you man. Thanks for this great thread.

Wrong thread lol, delete this please.

Great guide, bro!

One question... which type of permalinks for wordpress would you recommend?

You may be auditing your site and trying to verify that your articles are ranking well and not subject to overoptimization penalties. There are ways you can verify that your article is doing ok. Fortunately, Google fixes overoptimized articles very quickly -- in fact whenever you fix an article, you should see the results of the fix within 48 hours and its either fixed, or still penalized and should be reedited. Here is how you audit your site.

I got an EMD domain without checking its history first (keyword.org). Then i checked it on archive.org and found out it had huge keyword density in the past and probably was penalized because of this. Should this matter and should i keep the domain?

Based on what has been said, current keyword density matters, not historic. So you can build a site on that domain and keep the keyword density in mind.

You should also check the anchor text profile and backlink quality on the domains using ahrefs, majestic, open-site explorer and other tools to see if it was not spammed in the past. If it was, consider sending in a disavow request with all links before you acquired the domain name.

first of all, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

There is some boost to having the keyword in the EMD. In my opinion, these boosts are nothing special ... in fact they can be annoying when you trip into overoptimization because that keyword in the domain was more powered than you thought it was going to be. I'd much rather be dealing with a domain that is brandable but no keywords in it, because then I can optimize it without fussing with how much power its getting from the keyword in its domain. Don't get me wrong though, if I'm chasing after a super huge keyword and I have the EMD ... that is worth fussing over balancing the optimization.

I'm in the case having some very good EMD that were penalized for some of them. When you are saying "if I'm chasing after a super huge keyword and I have the EMD ... that is worth fussing over balancing the optimization.", what does it mean for keyword density ?
1. Concerning penalised websites using EMD (mainly because of big % of exact match anchors), You wrote "If you have a problem with too many exact anchors, its far better just to balance them out with more links of nonexact anchors.", ok, but should I change content towards 0% kw density in this special case too in order to reduce risk of future overoptimisation with new unwanted (I mean uncontrolled) links ?

2. For new EMD development, should I follow same rule, ie avoiding targeted keyword ? Will the increase of (uncontrolled) future BL overoptimised my website in bad way ?

Thank you for your help (and sorry for my bad english)

what i personally would be further interested in are differences on this particular density topic between new domains and aged ones. I have the feeling one is able to lift up density on aged domains and by doing this have more positive effect on rankings

When you outsource the article is there a specific service you use?
Is there an article service you recommend?

No, of course not. Natural backlinks are what everyone aims for!

Yes, of course, but I'm speaking about EMD. If my website use an EMD, I can manage to keep a very low keyword density on the site. But when people will create a "natural" anchor to speak about my website, they may in this way overoptimise my linking, even if content has a kw density near to 0%, no ? Or I'm missing something ?
