Learning by freelancing

I've been reading recommended books on copy writing and i'm debating on just freelancing copy for a few bucks on gig sites to get experience. Is this a smart thing to do? what quality standards do I have to meet for a 5 dollar copy job?

5 dollar job? Write a few articles and use it as your portfolio, give out free review copies to get reviews. Use those reviews as part of your sales copy.

yeah ! its better if you learn how to product quality content and then give free reviews ! people love free stuffs but if you can meet up to the expectation of people needs then defo you are going to do all good !

Perfect, I just figured that is better to just launch myself and get true experience even if is doing cheap gigs. I ordered some stuff from fiverr in the past and it was horrible-most of it was junk honestly. So why not start and learn by doing? I think I'll learn more about copy from getting to do 30 writing jobs than reading 30 books.

Now.. my grammar isn't the best, does that matter too much?
Should I keep my work initially under 250 words? what type of copy can I focus on that keeps me from writing out long sales letters?

5 dollar copy job??
Why not do it on fiverr? It is easier to get sales there and buyer always give review.

There is no count of words as long as your copy is persuasive.
But I realize that most good copy are generally longer.
Grammer do matter.

If you go down the freelance road, just be cautious that it doesn't become a way of life. Sometimes, doing these small jobs is so time consuming that you lose track of your real goals and that becomes all you do online.

I had been working as a freelancer on different areas, one of it is copy writing job. There's nothing wrong in starting at low earning job. In fact this will be the starting point in building up your skill and portfolio which lead into future high earning tasks. Remember no one reach the top without starting at the bottom line. Keep up the good work.

Well, some say you get a 'more quality' job if you have tons of experience. It may be inconvenient at first to do a few pro bono, but it can actually be inserted in your portfolio, more like an x-deal with your first few clients. When they see how good it is, you can be more confident in setting your standard pay.

I started off writing for Fiverr. I was writing emails for $5 a pop. That was 2 years ago. A week ago, I got paid $100 to write 8 paragraphs on a landing page which was only like 250-300 words. You don't have to meet any insane quality standards. You just have to write. Most people HATE writing and would love nothing more than to have someone do it for them. Especially if it's good quality and it's on the cheap.

Just the typical standards like the division on the introduction, conclusion etc and avoiding the mistakes.
All you need is practice.

Judging by your post, I'd say go for it. Practice is everything. Just open up a thesaurus, write away and read everything. With time, you'll gain confidence, learn new words and will be well on your way

Guys.... I'm surprised for such person who wanted to earn in starting. You have taken a good step for making more money but you have to work more for it then you will achieve a good day otherwise you have to work for all time. Learn more task then you will able to make more money. If you needed such job then open an account in freelancing site. It would better for you.

I agree with what's been said above. Start small, write for anyone and everyone, even if it means making peanuts. Eventually you will win loyalty from your clients and your reputation will grow. We all have to start somewhere.
