Let me rephrase - Waste of time to mine DOGE.
Wrong again, even with the huge increase in difficulty it's still possible. I've been doing it myself, so I'm not just guessing. I just built a new computer and through in a pair of nice GPU's and started. My shit luck was that literally in a matter of 72 hours the difficulty tripled, Lol. You can look that up too, I'm not even exaggerating.
That being said though, with just my 2 cards I'm already over 65k in Dogecoin from less than 2 weeks of mining, and I haven't even been mining it 24/7. That's not any kind of monster setup. I wouldn't recommend just blindly investing a bunch of money into a new computer with only mining in mind, and especially not if you need to see a fast return, but if you plan right, budget wisely, and most importantly, do your homework first, you can absolutely build a very reasonable computer capable of mining. It helps that I'll be able to use mine to make plenty of money even if I never made a penny from this, but I've done fairly well since I started for what I have invested.
My advice if you want to jump in now is to target a couple of alt coins that seem promising, and any new ones that come out that seem the same. Then when they reach exchange either trade them for BTC, or if you see some legitimate potential, hang on to them and see what happens. You're probably best sticking to 1 coin mainly, but it doesn't hurt to bounce around a bit to build up a nice wallet of a few different ones. The biggest thing is taking your time to learn about it before you dive in. I thought I did a pretty good job of this, and I definitely did, but in the week or two it took for me to get all my equipment and put it together I had learned even more that might have swayed my decisions some. It's a catch-22 in a sense, because you really can't afford to wait forever, but it's even worse to just jump in w/o reading up and understanding how things work a bit.
