Is this considered as duplicate content?

Hi guys,

I've started up a job portal in my niche and I'm wondering if I copy existing job posting on other job portals, and publish that on mine (including a link that redirects to the actual job post), is considered by Google as duplicate content? And so I would get penalized?

At the end of the day, it would be a bit like re-blogging.

That would be like article syndication ! Duplicate content generally means multiple version of the content under one domain ! Of course you are not going to rank high with the contents you pull from other sources. but giving the source a credit is a good thing

Not a good idea. Those are job listings, I can't take responsibility for alienating them.

You cannot outrank the job boards where you copy the content from. I'd recommend to rephrase the job postings to your site.

Yep, I don't want to outrank them. I just don't want to get penalized. I will rank because of other unique content I have on the website.

I've read something about cross domain canonicals, not too experienced about it but I think implementing them would help avoid a penalty.

As long as you are linking back, it's not duplicate, it's syndicated.

I've seen sites scraping content outranking the original sites so I wouldn't say it's impossible.

Which happens when the scraper (or the site it is re-posted) is well-known but the original author is little known.

Doesn't matter at all. As long as there is a hyperlink, you're fine.

Yes right ! also you can tweak the title of the job a little to make it better. Also i think there is less competition for the keywords so you have better chances

You can always put some additional content below the full-job descriptions, i.e. interview tips article, profiling links,etc.
Google loves site that give 'value added' rather than just simply syndication site.

I see no problem with this since the same person may post the same information on another website to gain more exposure for
jobs. Does not really count as duplicate content.

Don't copy and past the exact content, better you modify a bit and make it unique before posting...
