Do you use Meta Desc in Wordpress?

Aside from my homepage, I've never really used Meta Tags for my description in Wordpress. Is there anyone else here that does that? Is it really bad to do?

I don't even think Wordpress has the ability by default does it? I really don't want to install some all-in-one Wordpress app, but had some previous people from one of my lasts posts telling me that it should be done.

A Meta Description IS a Meta Tag. I guess for me I know that Google is going to grab a Meta Description from my site regardless of if I have the Meta Tag or not, so why bother. I hate the idea of putting more work into my posts.

I create unique META DESCRIPTION for each post using the YOAST SEO plugin.

Google will pull the first 154 words from your article and use them as the meta description. If you are happy enough with that then theres no problem even if does trail off mid sentence like...........

On the other hand a meta description is your chance to write a crafted call to action. Explain what your post is about and make people click the link. I always craft my meta descriptions it only takes me another two minutes of time. Dont presume that people will click your link just because you happen to be on the front page.

I believe Meta Desc. is important. It helps you write your desired description including your keywords. I use Yoeast plugin

Yupp I do and google uses that for the description. I also use og:description meta tag for social networks.

just do yourself a favor, ask your content writer to always write for each article 2 sentences as a teaser. then use those as meta-desc and just before the "read more" button on your site. don't over-think things.

yes, it's a part of optimization. however, it's your wish whether you need meta description or not.

You can write a detailed meta description for every page/post but doing so on an ecommerce site can be cumbersome and the automated meta is generally good enough if your item descriptions are good enough. Same holds true for non e-commerce sites. Get your keywords/phrases up top and the meta thatis automated will generally be what you would have written anyways.

Say, when you post to Facebook, Google+, etc. meta descriptions show what your posts are about. The ones that are the most informative and catchy, get more clicks and your site gets more traffic.

So, don't ignore using meta description.

I think you refer to Meta Keywords, which is said to be pointless. But both are Meta Tags.

It depends on the page. If its a page you want exposure for in the SERPS, then yes.

By habit, I create a unique description for each and every page (150 characters) as part of on-page.
