Hey guys,
Earlier in the day I was accepted to a University to study Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws as a double degree. However, I am required to choose what to major in for my business course.
I am currently debating which I should major in, shortening down to my preferences:

Accountancy
Advertising
Economics
Finance
International Business
Management
Marketing

If I want to either see myself working in a large corporation earning a healthy salary, or opening my own business, which should I major in?

If you were in my shoes, which would you choose? I've been thinking about this for quite a while but simply cannot make a decision :S

PS I live in Australia if that helps :)

No Brainer.... Marketing or Management.
Funny, those were the first two I actually chose between. Then I decided to go on the interwebs to search up other people's opinions, now my brain is shattered and cannot choose a major. Other people said Marketing/Management were completely useless compared to majors such as Finance or Accounting.

I'll read and respond to posts tomorrow, Im going to hit the hay.

that's just my personal opinion, you should research a little.

Don't research which one is the best and will earn you more money, but select the one which you will love to study.

its my personal opinion that when you study something, don't even think about how much money you will be making once you get a degree.

In the end its totally upto you.

It is a tough call but Economics would be on my list.

What are your future career plans?

I'd go for management too. Marketing is probably going to be outdated or some bullshit.

If you want to design fancy sales threads and sell snakeoil, why not try out marketing? You can be an internet marketer WITH A DEGREE.

Accountancy + Law is probably the best combo if you want to start your own business.
If you can take extra courses, then I would recommend you to take some courses from Management, Marketing and Psychology.

Befriend everyone so you can reap the benefits of all majors

I would do marketing, management or advertising. My inner creative says advertising.

Cheers

If you're a hard working person, choose Finance. With a lot of work and a few connections you'll be making while studying, you can earn an insane salary as broker (or even daytrade on your own, what ever you choose)

You should really get a copy of the syllabus and find out what books will be essential reading and try and get a look through a few of them. Maybe look at some previous exam Q + A s

Its important to know what each subject actually entails instead of what you think it will entail.

Bro,
Chose the subject that you love, you will never fell bore with your studies.

most people undertaking a business degree usually major in finance and accounting. But in the end of it its all personal preference and what suits you best.

I have a bachelors in Marketing. Just get the paper as cheaply as possible and do IM. Take Gen-ed courses at cheap schools, get the degree from a low-cost in-state school.

The only thing u do with marketing out of school is entry level sales. Opening a business is more just your own effort and keeping costs low

Finance if you want future job prospects in investments or banking; also great if you want to be an entrepreneur...it will help you to understand investing and how to estimate the future value of projects/investments.
You can always hire an accountant, and you'll get sufficient exposure in any business major (probably 2-3 actg courses mandatory)
Marketing and management are a lot of theory (again, like accounting, you'll get sufficient exposure to all the basics--take an elective or two if you're really keen). I don't know anyone in business that takes these majors seriously--I come from a line of business professionals, and have worked in the industry.

Finance isn't easy, but it is a solid degree...econ is good too, but you'll have to do a master's to get very far, and that involves a lot of econometrics, which is a beast, even for most quants.

Thanks everyone so much for your responses, it is truly appreciated.

I'm going to take a look at what each major entails (Marketing, Management, Finance or Accounting).
I've heard finance is really hard at the University I'm going to, but I am a hard worker and solid learner so hopefully that isnt a problem.

If anyone else has suggestions, please feel free to post them!

If youre getting into Business I would Major in Economics and minor in management.

You'll kill it in the business world.
