Web2.0 backlinks strength

Hey guys,

I saw a BST a few days ago about Web2.0 backlink posting on different web2.0 sites and that drove me to build a bot over some of them (up to this moment, Delicious and Pinterest).

What I'm wondering is, is it really worth it? I am figuring that, for example, on Pinterest you can re-pin a lot of times the same thing giving new backlinks with new pin URLs with the same user, so, what would be the difference between having the same backlink on 200 accounts or in only one?

Also, do these links provide help in the SERPS of the site? (I figured it would, but only to be sure). I know that can also get a good amount of traffic depending on niche, but I'm more interested on SERP rising.

Not all backlinks are created the same.

For example pinterest backlinks I believe are no-follow, whereas most web 2.0s will be do-follow.

Plus you need to have IP diversity, which is where different domains will come into play.

All things being equal, it is better to have 200 links from 200 different domains over say 200 links from a single domain.

And yes web 2.0s still work well when it comes to increasing your search engine rankings.

Think of links and social signals as "votes" to your site that behave very differently. I'm not sure about pins, but when you get tweets, likes, shares, +1s, etc, the link itself is nofollow and does nothing. They do count though, but how much they count is determined by other social signals like whether you're being tweeted by a random person or someone with authority (verified, lots of followers).

The other thing to consider, especially with pinterest, is that while the actual links don't pass value, internal links to your pinterest page from within pinterest do. You can actually rank a pinterest page in Google just from the natural internal juice flow easier than you would a new page. Don't write that off because conversions won't be as high, it's worth more than the page on your domain you can't seem to rank.

For most of the sites that aren't big players you're not going to see any benefit. All the links are nofollow and while you can theoretically rank some of them like you would a pinterest page, it's not going to be nearly as easy. Why bother with another 50 sites that won't get you anything when you could just take that time ranking more pages on the big ones? Aside from being nofollow links they don't count for social signals either. Google isn't dumb, they know Delicious is pure spam at this point and don't want to have anything to do with using it as a signal.

I agree that it's better 200 links on 200 different sites, although that would take way more effort (will try to diversify the most I can). I also understand that i.e. Delicious links are ******** while Pinterest are nofollow, but I don't think Delicious links have much more value than those on Pinterest due to the DA.

Hey, I'm most interested on the last paragraph you wrote; but I feel I can't totally grasp what you said. What do you mean by "sites that aren't big players"? Do you mean the site which SERPs I'm trying to increase? Do you think that no-follow links from Pinterest don't pass any kind of value to the domain that is being referred?

The point you make about internal linking is very good and interesting to note. I'll try to experiment that and learn a bit about "ranking" Pinterest both inside Pinterest and in Google.

Also, I can see where you're coming from when you say that Delicious is pure spam. Security measures to avoid that seem to be near to nil and I doubt they would count for much. But I believe it's worth a try, and it isn't any harder adding it.

I believe that pinning is in the same way similar to getting facebook likes, or retweets, they cannot count as backlinks of course but i believe that they are worth it.
Although Beware and dont over do it. Social signals are good only when you use them well. I have seen people brought down because of overdoing it. Take for example the popular website Rapgenius which was penalized recently by google for over doing the retweets and facebook liking

If you want quality web 2.0 links you're much better off focusing on sites like tumblr.

Take a list of websites because over 100+ web 2.0 sites exist. Find out if they are do follow or no follow and then
pay someone to write you up some articles to save a lot of time. Yes web 2.0 is very necessary.
