Like a dick, I launched my site BEFORE I knew as much as I do about SEO... yes ring the alarm I do things the WRONG way round.

Basically speaking my site is in that dating arena.. but before you flame me, I wont say the link, and the idea is pretty unique. Infact a world first.

Then I looked closely at the SEO implications which then made me want to drive my car off a bridge. It seems those cheesy sites have captured the market even link farms etc and so my question.

Is there any point doing much keyword stuff in this niche and on site optimisation when every keyword is already used massively by everyone else...

Please say something, a glimmer, a hint, a modicum of something that makes me think I have a chance at even a small percent 2% share of the market

I suggest you don't focus on Search Engine traffic.

There are a tonne of other ways to get loads of traffic to your pages.

theres a ton of ways of getting traffic to your site. blogs, cl, xrumer. if you got .00001 percent of the market, you would be rich overnight.

Well

1. I think its a world first but with dating people are so apathetic... I even have trouble explaining to guys that they list free, wait and the "shags" come and find them without them having to do anytihing!!!

2. We have added audio buttons on the pages to help illustrate the uniqueness of the idea. but in fairness against twitter and facebook we are pretty UN orignal in the eyes of the pro user. Compared to say match.com yes we are much cooler.

3. I love the idea about the 0000.1 percent and in fairness if i can get it to 100k a year I am happy not millions like match. its just that from an SEO perspective its hard, because people type into google the name of the brand of dating site these days through off site billboards word of mouth etc. So i am even struggling using nichebot to find something as title pages. Just adding "online dating" or "unique online dating" as the title tag seems a waste of time as there are soooooooooo many ahead of us.

So my thoughts are that I may be need to gather some steam and pr using other ways rather than optimising...

I even spoke to a keyword expert ( cough , rip off ) and even he said... yeh it pretty fruitless even trying to do too much work on ON page... optm.

I am seeing small results from bloging keyword topics though.

Your best option would be to research other sites with the keywords your using, use there downfall in seo to your advantage..

Your asking the wrong question, your question should be

"how can I build traffic to the site if all the goog keywords are taken?"

Now think on that question, and you'll prosper.

One more thought, if your site allows html, build a page where it is niche specific like "10 ways to build your self-esteem before the date", "how to know if my date is gay", "learn the secret language of men and women", "hear the sexiest date of the week(mp3), or "how to tell him his breath is bad" and then use those keywords. your then in a less competitive market. when you pick the kw don't choose the number one ranked kw. sacafice a few hits, but that will still get your pr on the lesser competitive kw's, get those put a good trial offer on those pages and do your seo.

ps: .00001 won't make you rich, it will make you mega rich....

So do you think I need to bother with page titles and alt tags at all? Or work on the blogs and generating copy based on those nichebot jackpot phrases?

I also saw a clever trick which was comparing your site to your competitors in a number of blogs... it then means you feature somewhere... so for example match.com vs my site etc.

I did have an exciting idea...

1/ Match.com pages are hidden from public view. Hence they can only optimise for the home page agree?

2/ Because my site is a public user generated list of single men, do you think I could woop ass later, in so much as. Each new member on the site is a public page and hence his page would potentially be SEO strong and could have strong keyword page titles, and alt tags?

I have a site called Radio Talent.co.uk which is like a public list of people who work in radio, but because the pages show publicly it for some reason has given us a page rank of 4 which I am really happy with.

That in mind what would be your opinion? for page titles for these dynamic pages?
@stinky yes legend, we already do that with the blog pages... i am so happy we rank number 1 for instance for a phrase such as "my girlfriends facebook" yet I have noted whilst the traffic comes to the site the bounce rate is v v high.

well, it was just a suggestion. you sound very "savvy" about this already and there are some seo experts on here that might lend a hand. the way i do it, your page titles and kw's should be optimized not only for your article, but your main sales page. opening the site up might help. i also like to google things like 'sex' and look at what others is doing and how they do it. pornhub did have number one position with thousands of video descripts, etc., but look at the number one now. now look at their page source. no robots. now back up to just the domain name. google site(99 articles) and links(26,000). look at the articles and links.

i too want to learn more about seo and new techniques. as for your site, just bouncing off ideas about your concern. you seemed very open for ideas and didn't mean to sound too simplistic.

on that the last post, i had just installed ppc webspy. it apparently plays games with your pc when you pull up listings on google. i just disabled it and pornhub is still #1.

@stinky sure mate no trouble I am pretty basic. but I have read about 6 books recently the best of which is the one called get to the top of google. its got the google logo on it. and its blue... maybe worth having... basic stuff but add to the genuis on here and its a good buy.

Trouble is match.com wont have a downfall they are loaded and not daft...funnily enough however... their keywords are like "singles" etc I mean what normal person ever uses that word... you may have a point...
